Southern Florida Serial Cat Killer Nets 30 Victims So Far

Who could be so cruel as to murder dozens of innocent cats? Police are on the prowl for ‘cat butcher.’
By The Staff at wowOwow.com

If you don’t have the stomach for stories about animal cruelty, perhaps you should pass on reading this post.

Police are hunting a serial killer south of Miami, but this persons isn’t killing people — he’s mutilating and killing cats. Some local news outlets are referring to the feline felon as "the South Florida cat butcher." At least 12 felines are believed to have fallen victim to this sadistic person — although many put that number at 20, 30 or more. Wednesday was a particularly deadly day. Five cats were found dead yesterday alone in Palmetto and in southwest Miami-Dade counties. Police first said the victims were casualties of vicious dogs, but they now say there’s no way canines could be to blame.

Tommy, a black-and-white cat belonging to a six-year-old girl, was the latest victim. He was found dead in the yard. Parents Donna and Ronald Gleason told CNN that "part of his skin was missing underneath … and part of his legs … he was partially skinned."

A reward of up to $12,000 has been offered.

In the meantime, southern Florida residents are keeping their pets inside. Let’s hope this feline killer on the loose is caught soon, so area cats can roam free from danger!

Ohhhhh ya….if I caught this sick coward…he would be praying for waterboarding so that he could actually walk away unharmed…..

John Douglas could profile this one….humans are not that unique…

My opinion?  This is a future "human" serial killer.  They all have histories of animal abuse.  Look out, Miami!

I totally agree with you Sharon.  This person is a serial killer in the making, if he hasn’t already started killing people.  I hope they catch him.

I hope they find this sick person.  I feel for the families that lost their kitties.

There is no rational excuse for such abhorrent behavior.  This person is another Michael Vick, but without adoring fans and the bets.

As a society, we need to take better care of our animals.  Most cities have huge populations of feral cats, and they cause many problems.  Disease is one problem, among many.  Also, leaving a  domesticated cat outdoors is a recipe for disaster.  My neighbor’s cat had a very bad encounter with a raccoon that left her without eyes.  My friend’s  cat was poisoned, most probably because she got into anti freeze, which cats love.

Florida residents have good reason to keep their cats inside, and not only when when some sicko is on the loose.  It’s the humane thing to do.

This could be a person under 16 years old.

I first thought this was a kid…it never occured to me that an adult, unless they have a mental illness, is doing this.  Someone’s mentally unstable kid whose parents dont pay attn to them or have lost everything is going around taking out his anger on these cats.  He can’t kill dogs b/c they attack worse so he/she is targeting cats.

How sad for these cats and their owners.  I hope this person is caught soon but dont be surprised if its not a juvenile.

I agree with Sharon, this person starts with cats and will move up the food chain if he/she is not caught.

If anyone ever touched my Angel (my cat), I’d run them over with my wheelchair or beat them with my cane.

I’d donte towards the reward to catch this in-human human.

This is such a sick perverted thing it is almost unbelievable, yet it happens everywhere. I keep getting special emails from our local Humane Society with stories of, pictures of animals that have been hideously abused and they are dealing with the animals’ injuries, requestring a donation. These are so sad, and to think that there is a serial cat killer on the loose is abominable. Stay away from  Sascha and Lilac (my cats) or you will be VERY SORRY!!!!!!

This goes BEYOND disgustingly sick.

I don’t know if it matters to you any of you about the 501c3 status, but the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is collecting donations.

I live just northwest of Miami. There have also been 15 cats killed and mutilated in Lauderhill which is in Broward county. For those wishing to make a tax-duductible donation, please make checks payable to : Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers 1030 NW 111th Ave Miami, 33172 and write Donation-Cats on the check. If the reward is high, this sick individual or individuals will be caught.
