Suleman 'Negotiates' Reality Show, Trademarks 'Octomom' Name

Media outlets jumped the gun on Wednesday when they reported that Nadya Suleman reached a deal to star in her own reality television show.
Actually, the UK production company Eyeworks, and the single mother of fourteen are still engaged in "active negotiations," but have yet to strike a deal

"At this time we are in active negotiations with Nadya and her attorney for an unscripted format following the life of Nadya and her children," Eyeworks CEO Reinout Oerlemans said in a statement. "Nadya’s story is a unique and exciting one that needs to be told in the right manner … We are confident that we are the right party to tell their story around the world."

Suleman’s story — though unique — doesn’t enter a new genre for reality television. From "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" to "18 and Counting" and "Table for 12," there’s no shortage of big family-centric programming.

So what will Suleman’s reality television show likely be named?

"Nadya Plus 14"? "The Suleman Dozen Plus Two"? "Single Mom With 14 and Counting"?

Perhaps, they’ll simply name it "Octomom," the nickname she once scorned. The New York Post now reports that Suleman submitted an application to trademark the "Octomom" name. According to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, she plans to sell diapers, clothes and a show under the "Octomom" brand.

I heard on the news this morning she may now be awared the patent for Octomom b/c another company got their application in a month before she did…but its funny how she hated the name YET she is now trying to make money off of it.

I dont like the idea of the reality tv show and from I heard on the news that each kid will have to have its own lawyer and child advocate to ensure safety & regulations are being met…and that it would be under the kids are 18, that is a long time to have cameras surrounding you and your kids…

The one idea I did like was using the Octomom name for diapers and clothes, etc to make money for her and her kids.

The one thing I’ve always believed, before "Octomom" and after, is that these children are being exploited for monetary gain - the Duggans, John and Kate, and now these 14 children.  They will never have "normal" lives and their entire lives will be filmed, having no privacy; they may never escape the fame…and I’m sure alot of people have seen the effect fame has on many children who grow up in the spotlight.  Yes, they may not be movie stars or anything, but they will still be forced to be on TV (at least until they are old enough to stick up for themselves), lawyers or no.  It really irritates me that people can get away with making money off the fact they happened to give birth to more than triplets.

Aside from exploiting her own children for - in my opinion - nothing more than monetary gain and to feed what appears to be a very serious "look at me" psyche, any further media attention to this whole situation and the "Octomom" is just drivel for the masses.  Personally, any channel with such a show would be banned from my remote.  If media success depends on such tripe, make all medias sources await the children’s age of consent and seek individual approval from each one!

If Heidi Fleiss can sell clothes, why not the other LA pimpette, Nadya Suleman?

What has happen in no surprise.  Lawyers, Press all the things she really wanted all along.  She is pimping her kids as I suspected.  I’m with G.E. I have the remote and the choice and if more people did not watch her 15 minutes of fame will go away.  I feel for those kids and their Wako mom.

nanchan u that gave me a chuckle

Well, many on this site when her story first broke offered up the idea that she had the fertility treatment in the manner she did with hopes that she would have the multiple births. Theorizing that she did it for notoriety and money. I guess they were right, because it is clearly paying off for her. I for one will not watch a reality show with her on it nor buy any products for friends and family with children with her trademark.

Well, good for her. If she "knew" as many seem to believe that she would get all this notoriety when she decided NOT to flush her embryos or give them up to research or strangers, then she indeed was prescient. Besides, since so many others are making plenty of buck$ off of her situation, why shouldn’t she. And it certainly is a way to provide a hefty income, since one is needed to keep and raise that big family. I hope it all works out for her and the children.

I read a posting on another website by someone who despised Suleman. The writer suggested the only thing the word "Octomom" should be stamped on was condoms ….  because they’d make guys think twice about what ejaculation could result in.

Why Octomom? She has 14 kids, not just the eight. The whole thing is a stupid waste of time, interest and print. I predict we WILL eventually read about her losing the children to the state. It may not be for a year or two, but it’ll happen.

I would imagine that the first two shows will be fairly popular.  Some people will be curious. But then, since she cannot utter one intelligent word, how can she be a " star"?  She is  a pathetic, sad, delusional woman , and the fame she craves will be short lived.

Eyeworks, the UK production company, is noted for doing shows of the genre they call "factual programmes," with such categories as "Extraordinary People" and "Bodyshock," of which two notable videos are "Half Ton Mum" and  "Born Without a Face." I don’t know about the first show, but "Born Without a Face" is a very sad story of a baby literally born without a face. http://www.mymultiplesclerosis.co.uk/misc/juliannawetmore.html

I don’t know if this production company has a humane mission or if their intent is to video things the public considers freakish and exploit it. As for Suleman - she’s lied so many times about deals. I think she has it in her head that if she says she’s got a deal, then others will come around with a better deal.

Those poor, poor exploited children.
