Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' Casts Up-and-Comer Mia Wasikowska; Jane Kaczmarek, Bradley Whitford Split

The Internet is abuzz today with two items in entertainment news. The first is Tim Burton’s 3-D remake of "Alice in Wonderland," which seems wacky — yet totally enthralling. The other is the unfortunate end of a longtime Hollywood marriage between Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford.

While "Alice in Wonderland" isn’t slated to debut until March 5, 2010, details of the film and photographs of the cast in costume have been made public.

The star-studded cast includes Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Up-and-coming 19-year-old Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska plays the lead role. Many look forward to seeing how the young dame holds her own with this A-list cast.

USA Today has images of the surreal scenes — all of which seem to be in true Burton form. Burton, who brought us the eccentric update to "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," is known for his imagination, to say the least. Walt Disney has confirmed that this film is somewhat of a sequel to the original — taking place ten years after the original story. Alice (now 17) ditches her boyfriend as he proposes to her — and then follows a white rabbit down the rabbit hole to Wonderland.

Alice doesn’t recall her first visit to Wonderland, but her old friends do. And as the people of Wonderland prepare to revolt against the cruel Red Queen, they will need Alice’s help. Excitement ensues and this will surely be a movie with cross-generational appeal.

In other entertainment news, Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford have filed divorce papers after 16 years of marriage, People magazine confirmed. The "Raising the Bar" actress and "West Wing" actor, for the sake of their three children, request that the media respect their privacy. In an interview with wowOwow.com, Kaczmarek talked about her charity, Clothes Off Our Backs and more.

How is it that Johnny Depp can look appealing no matter how outrageously attired he is?  He can carry off looks that no one else can.

A shame about Jane Kaczmerek and her husband’s marriage ending. That is one of the prices of acting fame. Some marriage survive and some don’t.

Tim Burtons films have always been strange, & slightly off the wall. BUT, it seems to me he just uses the same cast over & over, with maybe the addition of one or two new ones. Johnny Depp did the voice over for the Corpse Bride ( a Tim Burton film). Was Charlie in Charlie & the Chocolate factory (another Tim Burton film I belive) And both Johnny Depp  & Helena Bonham Carter played the lead roles in Sweeny Todd ( yet another one of Burtons films. I get it, they are talented actors, or maybe they work cheap for Burton, but enough already. I think if she wasn’t married to Tim Burton Helena Bonham- Carter wouldn’t get any films at all.

I loved Helena Bonham-Carter in those wonderful Merchant-Ivory films.  I don’t know if she felt she had become typecast, or what, but she has not done anything of that nature for quite awhile.  It would be nice to see her return to those roles.
