She’s been married twice and wooed Tom Cruise in "Top Gun," but 52-year-old actress Kelly McGillis has finally admitted she’s a lesbian.

In an interview with lesbian website SheWired.com, McGillis told the reporter that her next lover will "definitely" be a woman: "I’m done with the man thing. I did that, I need to move on in life. It’s a part of being true to yourself. That’s been a challenge for me." Indeed it has been — McGillis has repeatedly denied being gay in the past, but now insists she’s strong enough to face the fact, a fact that’s been nagging her since her adolescence:

I think that was an ongoing process from the time I was probably 12.

It was a long arduous journey for me. I had a lot of bad things happen to me that made me think God was punishing me for being gay.

Life is a freaking journey about coming to terms with who and what you are.

Well, we’re proud of you for coming out, McGillis — it takes guts.

After decades of living a lie, how sad that at this point in her life, at this point in time, it still takes an act of courage to be her true self.
She looks so worn down in this picture. :-(

I hope she finally finds her love.

No way! She IS? What a shocker…NOT

who cares…she should keep her private life to herself…

I hope that she gets help for those "bad things" that happened in her life and that she can move on and be happy.

Good Luck and glad to see that she is being honest with herself.  To us its not that big of a deal…

I find it so odd how people "willy nilly" switch from one sexuality to another, and yet every Gay person I know insists (as I have for many years) that your sexuality is not a choice it is something you are born as. However I have seen over and over again people routinely choosing to "switch sides" which flies in the face of you were born one way or another. I am straight, probably the most straight woman on the planet and would be repulsed if I had to engage in sexual activity with another woman. This tells me I was born straight.

How women and men who claim to be as I am but then mid life/stream change their minds and then suddenly feel at ease with the thought of being sexually attracted to their own sex is very confusing to me. Maybe this is where the terminolgy bi-sexual comes into play….maybe there are people who actually are able to be sexually aroused by both sexes.  I give up, I guess I’m a dinosaur trapped in 2009! :-)

I find it so odd how people "willy nilly" switch from one sexuality to another

she said herself she struggled with her issue on being gay, that she believed "god was punishing her for being gay"

so really, she isn’t switching - she is finally lowering the veil of lies and allowing her real self to finally shine through!

However I have seen over and over again people routinely choosing to "switch sides" which flies in the face of you were born one way or another.

i am not turned on by all women or all men - i am pansexual, i like who i like, regardless of genitals or sex identification (i have also dated transmen - women who feel they are men inside).

we should just step back and allow everyone the freedom to love who they love, and not judge the silly "choice" or "no choice" looks of their attraction. we have no idea what they have been feeling their whole lives. they may have been in denial for whatever reason.

perhaps they love the person, rather than the genitals. i know that is true for me. not everyone woman turns me on, not every man turns me on. but certain women, and certain men, make me wobbly in the knees.

I’m sorry Lemon Tea, I don’t understand your reply to my post (and I’m not being sarcastic). Was it to convey your opinions which differ from mine?

you are making assumptions about people "switching sexuality willy nilly". i am informing you that your assumption is wrong.

she said herself she struggled with her issue on being gay, that she believed "god was punishing her for being gay"

so really, she isn’t switching - she is finally lowering the veil of lies and allowing her real self to finally shine through!

Hmmm….yes I am making the assumption that there are people who switch their sexual attractions willy nilly. This is my belief. It appears from what you have written you disagree with me.  Thank you for sharing your opinion.

when people are making assumptions about people, it’s not about disagreement or agreement - human beings are telling YOU what is going on in their lives.

no one has the right to start making assumptions about who, what, why.

it is not that i disagree with you - it is that you are wrong.
