Q & A With Dr. Wayne Dyer, Author of Excuses Begone!

The following is a Q & A with Dr. Wayne Dyer, internationally renowned leader in self-development and author of the New York Times bestseller Excuses Begone!
wowOwow: What was your inspiration for Excuses Begone!?
Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Tao taught me what to think. I wanted to teach people how to think, and change lifelong thinking habits, which are so difficult to change for many people, including myself.
wOw: How would you differentiate between an excuse and a legitimate reason?
WD: An excuse is an explanation for continuing self-defeating ways. A rational reason is a sensible thing to do.
wOw: "Affirmations" are a focal point of your work – how would you define an affirmation and how can we utilize them in our daily lives?
WD: An affirmation is an expression of what we contemplate and compassion is the highest form of action. When you make an affirmation, you are taking an initial crucial step to change what is not working for you.
wOw: What advice would you give to people who are currently struggling in this recession?
WD: Look for a way to serve those who are less well-off than you, for it is in giving that we receive.
wOw: Your career spans 30 years and 30 books. How has your point of view changed? What have you learned?
WD: I used to write about psychology and now I write about spirituality. You won’t find references to God or the Source in my earlier writings; now there is hardly a page that doesn’t have it in there.
wOw: What other projects are you working on now? What can we expect next?
WD: I am currently writing a book to accompany my recent film, "The Shift." After that I will go where I am sent and I will write what I am told to write.

I am going to see Dr. Dyer in person this October in Illinois and I can’t wait. I watched his special on PBS last week in which he shared with the audience his teachings and I was blown away. His beliefs and teachings focus on what I have always believed and sometimes forget, that how we think translates directly into our physical lives.
Affirmations are necessary for leading and living a healthy life. A positive mind and outlook can and does change your life. Thanks WoW for a great interview with a man who doesn’t have all the answers, but he does have enough of them to get each of us on the road to who we were meant to be.

I thought so too!
Perfect! One cannot say he isn’t constantly changing, though. ;-)) Whatever the audience wants, the audience gets for $$$$ in the bank. sigh.

Wayne W. Dyer "God Wannabe" BEGONE!
Ah, a breeze from the ocean on this new day. Thank you, L.C. Dyer has been in our craw since Michigan days, and just won’t quit.
Oh, my goodness, what is so awful about this man and his writings? Please enlighten me.
Maybe I’ll just go get his book and decide for myself.
There is nothing awful about him Sue. What L.C. posted is true, Wayne Dyer is sharing knowledge he took from various spiritual leaders and therapists, compiled it with his own insights and is now selling a book on those thoughts and touring the U.S. speaking turning a profit.
I don’t see the problem. On the Wow site today we have one of my favorite work/career gurus, Tory Johnson who in her new book combines insights she learned from others and combined it with her own thoughts and opinions and is making a profit off of that. I don’t see anyone complaining about her. They are both profiting off of ideas that are not solely their own, imparting wisdom and ideas to hopefully result in happier and more centered lives.
A happier life comes from lack of stress, self-confidence and a feeling of worth in a distraught world. Spirituality has always been difficult for me. I am 50 and still debating the existence of a higher power. A man on a book tour (in his words, "Look for a way to serve those who are less well-off than you, for it is in giving that we receive.") won’t give me that certainty.
"Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Tao taught me what to think. I wanted to teach people how to think, and change lifelong thinking habits, which are so difficult to change for many people, including myself."
He actually said "I wanted to teach people how to think." I have a problem with that. You cannot talk someone into believing in a higher power. The people who like him are the ones who already share his beliefs.
I have seen this man on PBS and even watched one of his marathon dvds. No one can pound spirituality into another person’s brain—that person has to be ready to accept it.
i used to think that, buy his books and give them away, cringe at his daughter’s singing but i think he’s hit on something with excuses begone as i think there is something each of us would do without an excuse, i think it’s good to emphasize what we do needs to be a rational choice, as it’s possible to rationalize doing almost anything. Be fearless.
I was with some friends one day and they were clearly very spiritual people. I on the other hand was 29 just divorced raising 2 children on my own and their spirituality pissed me off. I’m not proud it’s just where I was. Why was every one else getting this????
Anyway I had a dear old friend and when I shared this feeling with her, she simply replied "Bobbie spirituality is like an orgasm relax and let it happen." It worked!
