Puppy Flushed Down Toilet | 06/16/2009 9:00 am

Week-Old Puppy Survives Flush Down Toilet, Rescued by Plumber (Video)

Dyno the Pup’s namesake is from the plumber who rescued him from a sewer drain after his four-year-old owner thought he needed a bath; alleged Florida teen cat slaughterer charged.

One-week-old Dyno the puppy survived a flush down a U.K. toilet.

The little cocker spaniel was trapped in a waste pipe for almost four hours after four-year-old Daniel Blair tried to "wash" him in the toilet. The Daily Mirror said mom Alison checked the drain outside and heard the dog whimpering. A plumbing specialist from Dyno-Rod came to rescue the terrified pup. You can see pictures of the trapped puppy here. Watch video below.

"I never thought a dog could survive being flushed down the loo. He’s a real little fighter," Alison Blair told the Mirror.

Meanwhile, in feline news, Florida police think they’ve caught the person responsible for slaughtering and torturing 19 cats across South Miami-Dade. Teenager Tyler Weinman has been ordered by a judge to stay in jail 48 hours pending a psychiatric evaluation, reports The Miami Herald. Weinman has been charged with 19 counts of felony animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary. If he’s released, he will be monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet.

”I’m concerned about his safety and the safety of the community,” said Judge Mindy Glazer.

Here’s video, courtesy of Dyno-Rod, of little Dyno the pup in the drain. It’s not the easiest thing to watch, so be forewarned.

As many ways as you try to watch kids, they figure out something new to do.  Kids are fascinated by toilets and seem to learn how to do everything first but learn to use it properly.  Good luck to Dyno.

What is a child doing with a one week old puppy? Parents? You need to supervise children. They should never be handling puppies that young.

Furthermore, why the litter of puppies to start with? Hasn’t Blair heard of overpopulation?

Poor Dyno - I can only hope his forever home has humans with much more common sense than the current family who houses him.

Andrea, Im going to play devil’s advocate here…I have a 3 year old and when we are together I surpervise her but NO I do not follow her every move through out our house.  If we had puppies she would not have direct access to those puppies but I would not keep her from holding them or petting them, it teaches kids that age to be gentle & easy…Now if I was in hte kitchen cooking dinner & those puppies were gated off, my daughter has and would take her stool from the bathroom that she uses to wash her hands with & climb over the gate, grab a puppy, climb back over and then give that puppy a bath…Now would that be my fault since I was cooking a healthy meal for this child?  You can’t watch over your kids 24/7, they have to have freedoms and learn on their own.  Thankfully Dyno lived and I am sure this 4 year old, well if he was mine, got his little tail spanked and some major taking away of his favoriate toys.

I appreciate your view, C Hardy, but:

1 - No one has any business allowing their pets to have a litter given the overpopulation problem.

2 - Reputable breeders would NEVER allow children around a litter.

2 - Most organizations that find homes for pets will not allow small dogs, let alone puppies, to be rehomed into homes where the children are under age 12. What happened to Dyno is one of the reasons why.

Andrea…I dont breed my dogs so I dont know a lot about breeding but yes with the over population of animals one would think that you would now get your dog fixed; however, that is the UK not the US…so they may be different…

2nd like I stated before parents can’t watch their kids ALL the time, it is impossible.  Yes these puppies should have been kept somewhere safer from a 4 year old.

Not different in the UK.

My goodness, Andrea, enjoy this canine story. It was a heartwarming event, and a puppy was saved. The end justified the means; hence, it’s ethically OK.

And, what was a child doing with a puppy in the loo? Well, in 1967, I put my first (of 3) children, age 3, soon to be 4, on the counter in our spacious, brand new after-grad school, apartment (with built in surround sound) to wash her little feet off, and dang if she didn’t lean back so far she went head first into the toilet bowl.

As a medical professional, the last thing I wanted was to harm my child, or anyone for that matter, so I picked her up and dashed to the phone, where upon the local FD came running over (from the corner!).

They were in stitches laughing at me, and of course she was fine, but … she still remembers that event! In "those times," I was viewed as overpopulating, too, (ZPG you know) but for myself, it was best that I was the one overpopulating compared to those I who criticised me.

C Jay,

As someone who has spent more hours in animal welfare than I can count, I don’t find the puppy story in the least bit funny and the end did not justify the means. Imagine if your child fell down a well.

There are several issues but the one that really stands out is that an adult human allowed a one week old puppy to be unprotected [from the kids].

I appreciate your view Andrea but: maybe someone should have told Octo-mom she had no right to have a litter, given her already overpopulation of six children at home.

2. Reputable Physicians would never allow a single unemployed woman to have 14 children.

3. Most organizations have to spend thousands of tax payers dollars to find homes and/or support for these small babies. Maybe if we focused more on the welfare of our children…we wouldn’t have to ask why.

Ali Bell,

Believe me, if I ruled the world everyone would be sterile until they could prove financial and emotional security.

What her IVF doc did was unconscionable. And I see he still has his license according to the licensing board.

The OctoMom story is the perfect example of too many welfare systems not being accountable. This woman got away with murder.

Andrea, the video made me cry, that poor little puppy.  And your right, "what was a 4 yr old doing with a one wk old puppy",  Adult supervision of children that age is a must 24/7.  Kids that age get hurt all the time becaue no one is watching them.

How old was that little girl who fell in the well???  she was very young.

Kids and holes, the two just don’t mix.

Absolutely the truth.

Personally I also think it’s gross that the 4-year-old child so poorly understands the function and unhygienic state of the toilet that he would think it was acceptable to "wash" the puppy in it.

Well, I agree that children need to be properly supervised, but as a mother, I also know that "things happen", in spite of the best intentions and actions.  When my children were little I used to jokingly say "Who needs to go to a gym?  Little children are a great ‘mommy workout’."  Having walked in those shoes, I am very understanding, and am just glad the puppy is ok!

Let me say it again very clearly:  No puppies at that age should ever, under any circumstances, be placed in an environment where children can in any way, shape, or form, have access to them. That is the parent’s responsibility.
