I’ve read so many wonderful ideas- it’s nice to see all the ways people would help each other.
I would pay off all our bills and give money to my parents and siblings to help with their bills. I would make sure everyone had a reliable vehicle to drive. Then I would buy one of the beautiful big old homes in town and move my family into it and fix it up just the way we want. Each child would have his own room or his own area to make his very own and keep his treasures. I would save a big chunk of money so that we wouldn’t have to stress over money to pay the bills each month. I would love to take a big family vacation with my parents and sibs and all our children and stay in the mountains for a couple weeks. Then we’d come home and continue to live modestly but happily.
I would pay off my mortgage nd then build the hosue we really wanted and I would pay off other debts, give to charieites and then open accounts for our 3 kids and put the trest there
after 10yrs of being an armywife…i’d make sure my husband got out..never had to do another deployment, field problem or anything else and make sure he got the best treatment for his ptsd…i’d also buy our dream house in the mountains somewhere..set up college funds for our children..and relax…
I’d pay off my debt, my brother, sister’s, and parents’ debt as well…put some cash in a trust for my nephews for college, then head to London for a few months, inviting friends as they were able to get time off work. Ahhh…sounds so nice!
I always told my hubby, we’d spit it 3 ways - his, mine, and ours (25/25/50 split). That way he and I could do with whatever we please with our portions without any arguments. The "ours" would be for household/living expenses. Aside for paying off whatever debt we might have (which isn’t much), I’d put it in the bank for 6 months or so to, hopefully, avoid any rash spending.
This is what I have always promised……I have many children,,,seven,,,and I would find out the debt of their parish….and pay those debts. And,,,,if perhance,,,,one of these lovely children has not joined a parish in thier hometown…..Too bad….
I’d pay off my debts, make sure I had taken care of my 88 year old Mom and me for the longterm. Then I would invest (I guess right now might not be the best time for that), buy a house in the Capitol Hill area of Denver —- and then off for a month long (or longer) visit to Britain, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Maybe I’ll even buy a house along the Irish coast —-
Call my financial advisor first, my attorney second. Wouldn’t want the notoriety. Of course, I have never played the lottery in my life so I guess the matter is moot where I am concerned.
First, I would quit my job so I could be the stay-at-home mom I wanted to be but could not afford. I would immediately set aside 10% to create a charitable nonprofit organization that supports various groups.
Then…I would pay off all of our debts, set up trust funds to pay for college for my three kids, set up trust funds for my grandparents and parents and in laws (so they never have to work again), give some money to my siblings and in-law siblings (enough to provide a comfort zone), set up a trust fund to handle all of my expenses for the rest of my life.
Then…my husband and I and our kids would buy the boat of our dreams and sail around the world visiting the places we have only dreamed of…Greece, Italy, Austrailia, Africa, Peru, and more. The kids will get home-schooled in the greatest classroom ever: The Whole World.
Finally, when we’ve travelled and seen enough, we will return to the US and buy a gorgeous house (on a HUGE chunk of property), a couple of nice cars, and live a life of doing whatever we want. Go back to school. Volunteer. Spend real time together without the stress and worries of money always creeping in.
It’s a fantasy…not real life. But it is so sweet and fun to dream….
Pay off all of our debts, set up trusts for the kids, buy a decent house (I’m not a mansion kind of gal, lol), pay off the mortgages of all brothers, sisters, parents and in-laws. Buy a nice summer home, where friends and family would be able to gather and spend time together. Set up scholarships for kids with the drive but not the means to go to college. Donate to lots of charities. Maybe start a business, and just live our lives!
I would remodel my mothers home to make it handicap accessible. New lower cabinets, and a large seated shower so her life would be easier to manage and she would feel more self sufficient.
I have found a lot of caring, sharing people here.
My answer goes along with the clearing up debt. Giving to my church benevolent fund. Clearing up daughter’s student loans. Paying off son’s mortgage. Put some in a college fund for his daughter. Help Trident Literacy Agency. Fix up our home. Don’t really want to move. Like the location. Get a library started and "booked up" in the county jail where my daughter works. Photography studio for hubby. New car for me.
