A call for something positive! What has made you laugh lately? (A book, a movie, a show, a joke?)

Joan Ganz Cooney Laughs at 'Daily Show' Bobby Jindal Skit (Video)

Jon Stewart critiquing Bobby Jindal’s speech (which followed Obama’s major address last week). Stewart compared Jindal’s delivery with that of Mr. Rogers of "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood," and it was spot-on and very funny.

Liz Smith on Hysterical NYMag Piece That Said Post Fired Her ...

The writer Jonathan van Meter’s perfectly hysterical comment in New York Magazine, to wit: "Last week the Post fired Liz Smith but not cartoonist Sean Delonas."

(Mr. D. is the guy who executed the cops-killing-an-ape cartoon that put the NAACP to picketing the newspaper!)

Candice Bergen on Steve Martin and Kristin Scott Thomas

Maybe Steve Martin on "SNL" two weeks ago. And weep? Just saw Kristin Scott Thomas in "I’ve Loved You So Long." OMG. What a brave, powerful performance. Just a sidebar.

Julia Reed: Laughter and 'Life on Mars'

Everything makes me laugh — thank God — but one thing that has been making me pretty consistently happy is my new absolute favorite TV show, "Life on Mars," set in 1973 New York City, complete with the fabulous Harvey Keitel in while slip-on shoes. It is so well written, well shot and well acted (Gretchen Mol is wondrous), and the soundtrack is out of sight. Every week it makes me laugh — and cry — and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Joan Juliet Buck 'Howls' at 'Onion TV' (Video)

"Onion TV" makes me howl with laughter every time.
It’s funnier than The Onion newspaper. It is witty, sharp and so well performed that it looks real.
And the deadpan approach is everything I need right now.
It’s enhanced my life and may save the world through derision.

As Time Goes By always warms my heart.  I have seen some of them so many times, but I continue to enjoy them.  I love British humor because they use the mother tongue so well.

I agree, Frannie. British comedy is in a class by itself. With an economy of words, so cleverly delivered, the Brits are hilarious! As Time Goes By is just plain wonderful with so many funny, loveable characters. Have you ever noticed how Judi Dench’s facial expressions speak whole paragraphs?

I’m not going to lie, I was channel-surfing because my PBS British comedies weren’t on as usual and I found School of Rock on TBS. As someone who’s quite familiar with educators I just kept dying every time the uptight principal (Joan Cusack) showed up. And Jack Black taking her on a date with beer? Hilarious. Never thought I’d like that movie, I try to have more intellectual tastes, but it served its purpose. It was kind of cute, too.

Blue, sometimes we just have to forfeit our ‘more intellectual tastes’ - for me, that film is Revenge of the Nerds! There’s nothing wrong with a good belly laugh - I don’t think I have those often enough.

Thanks again, Tee! Two days in a row you started me with a smile - should be a great new year on WOW! My son(now 20) was a great belly laugher as a baby.

BTW I’ve brought my Jackie on board as my avatar. The interesting thing is that after 3 attempts to change it last night I didn’t think it worked - so nice to have her greet me this morning!

Someone else who makes me laugh is Michael Keaton… I think he is just a truly gifted actor who IMO goes unnoticed quite a lot and doesn’t get the recognition or credit he truly deserves. He cracks me up in Mr. Mom and The Dream Team… keep the laughs coming Mr. Keaton… you are golden!

I just wanted to agree that laughter is so helpful, and impor- tant. Reading the posts helped lighten my mood! Thanks Wow!

well—let’s see—i guess the last thing that really put a smile on my face was bill orielly’s last book—don’t judge him before you read it or watch at least a couple of days of his show. Also—Glenn Beck really makes me laugh, he’s so passionate about his feelings. I always think it’s better to listen and see for yourself, instead of letting someone else tell you how to think and feel .

so..give peace a chance—and fox news too.

Under S — I love Glenn Beck.  He can be serious and very passionate, however, when that dry humor takes over I always love to watch the expression on his face.  He’s on when I come home from the office —makes a really tough day so much easier to bear.  And, I agree, and was pleasantly surprised, to find that I really enjoyed O’Rielly’s book.

i know—and he’s a riot when he starts eating m&m’s whenever anyone’s saying something stupid—you have to laugh

Ubder S —I have to admit, I was a little leery about reading his book, however, I was so pleasantly surprised.  It wasn’t like his personality on television.  I guess everyone should see the private, other side of some epople!

And, I meant to add —When Beck starts chomping on the M&M’s — the diversion is so funny.  Sometimes, on his really serious moments, he can bring me to tears.

Lady G….Beck is a card…I love his facial expressions when the camera takes a close  up….He really is an emotional man and lets his feelings  show….very compassionate and really can get teary eyed.  Some of his radio shows are great…he had told a story one day and callers were calling in (even men) saying they had to pull off the road because they had teared up too….I don’t get to see him everyday, depending what time I get home from work, I should DVR it, but I am so far behind now on watching those programs, that I probably would never have time to watch anyway.  The M&M’s are so funny….love that man!!

Lady G,

Did you see Glen on Friday, he was teasing his Communist guest with yellow marshmallow Peeps! Too funny.
