I use the Cancer Survivors Network to communicate with other survivors and their families and friends. Other than that, I have a large network of friends from around the world with whom I communicate with weekly or even daily. My male Navajo friend is my ‘brother’ and still calls me ‘sister,’ and my female friend in Taiwan remains ‘dear sister’ in all commuinications. That works well for me. CA
your survey only lets you pick one choice. I use LinkedIn and Twitter but really don’t have time for Facebook. I use both LinkedIn and Twitter for business connections. I consider Facebook to be more social and I haven’t really had time or interest to keep up with it, although I am registered.
Hmmm…I was loving Facebook until last week and then it hit me. There are four parts to communication message, sender, receiver and emotion facebook doesn’t have the last. Under the advice of my former high school counselor and reaching the conclusion that Amy Winehouse was absolutely correct in her assessment of narcissism. I contacted the people I wanted to talk to, gave them my phone number and deleted my "friend" list. Myspace account is reserved for family.
Late convert to this concept: I very much value my privacy. But low and behold, about six hours after I signed up, and old boyfriend pinged me I(it was kind of an icky deal: he had slept with my best friend before we dated, I didn’t know before I dated, he asked me to marry him, I refused… can you imagine the wedding? The maid of honor "knowing’ the groom! EW!)…. thank god for the block button, but it was kind of cool to reconnect with folks I haven’t talked to in years.
What I find disturbing is that there are people here on this site that evidently have some kind of facebook group dedicated to bashing other posters….. why not use the power for positive interaction?
I use Facebook for family and friends - I’ve found some of each that I haven’t seen or heard from in years, and now talk to some on a fairly regular basis (or at least know what’s going on with them) that I never would have otherwise. Twitter I use more for networking and to keep up with news - SO many news outlets on there! It’s also fascinating to find role playing groups on twitter - I follow a lot of those. I haven’t done IRC chatting in years, and twitter reminds me a lot of that, and I find I miss it more than I thought I did!
I’m signed up on LinkedIn - that did get me signed up with one more staffing agency, but hasn’t helped much, I’m still between assignments (5 wks now). I’m on MySpace but dislike it, so I only keep a profile there so people can find me, although I think most of the people I was looking for are now on Facebook!
I still prefer snail mail. I send post cards to people when I’m working far away, and try to write letters and send cards. But most people don’t take the time to respond. They say they don’t HAVE the time, but people have as much time as they take - it’s all about priorities. Ah well.

Wow, Nanchan, I feel disturbed as well regarding the ‘wowOwow bashing group’ on Facebook. Some folks just can’t part with the junior high antics.
I don’t partake of Facebook - I leave it to my kids. They do show me what’s going on and good pictures that I might be interested in.
