My favorite used to be the Night-time Emmys. Now for the last couple of years it’s been the Tony Awards. I still like the Daytime Emmys. I cannot stand the Golden Globes anymore since they changed the format. The Oscars put me to sleep as do the Grammys.
Absolutely none. The arts, as such, are ignored. Expertise recognized by peers is sufficient for any group. It’s a waste of time, and money. "The Red Carpet" needs to be rolled out in hospital ERs, homeless shelters, food banks, and children’s shelters. BASTA.
I prefer the Tonys because it seems to have more class than the "Hollywood" sort of award ceremonies with the Red Carpet. The women all look alike with their breast augmentations, blonde hair, overly plumped lips, and a lot of pre-ceremony facial work. The women at the Tonys look different..more natural, and are not overly dressed in designer gowns. Of course, the actors at the Tonys have it over Hollywood, as they perform constatanly and there are no re-shoots, no editing. It has to be right every time. Now watch me eat my words tonight.
Oscars, dahlings. Drama, intrigue, gowns. Crawford presenting to Davis. Come on, dears, you KNOW you love the histrionics of it all, don’t you, my dears?
Well, I generally watch them all …. goes back to childhood days with a mother & 2 sisters and constant bitchy comments. The Emmys not so much because I don’t like many TV shows ( with the exception of American idol THIS year … something very special ! ) not much, in my opinion, can compete with "The Wire" or "In Treatment" and they don’t get recognized.
My husband & I love movies, try to see all the nominated ones and watch the Oscars to see if the Academy gets it right … in our opinion.
I live two hours from New York and love the Tony’s because it gives me a look at the new shows. In February we had a "Broadway’ weekend - "In The Heights" on Friday and "South Pacific" … as far apart as can be but equally fabulous. We’ve already decided that we MUST see "Billy Elliot" and am looking forward to see it win a lot of awards tonight.
Our favorite is probably the Grammys. We are music nuts and love some of the new music, and the show is ALL music , in fact, most of the awards are given before hand so the show is really a big concert. It’s usually our favorite show of the year.
Giant exception …. The Kennedy Center Honors , usually shown between Christmas & New Years, and not really an awards show, is our other favorite show of the year. THEONLYSHOW where you can see dance, opera, country, rock, and ballet on one show. Consistently wonderful !
