The Rise of Anna Wintour? | 08/28/2009 11:15 am

Will 'The September Issue' be Anna Wintour's Comeback? (Video)

Liz Smith

The documentary "The September Issue" follows Anna Wintour, editrix of Vogue magazine, as she and her troops work tirelessly to create the magazine’s notorious September issue — the largest issue in Condé Nast’s history. The film comes at an interesting time. The business of publishing continues to suffer and rumors swirl about whether Wintour will be out, which makes us wonder: What will result from "The September Issue"? Will this save Vogue and Wintour? Is Wintour much like Meryl Streep’s vile character in "The Devil Wears Prada"? Or is there a gentle woman behind the dark shades? Watch me on Fox News for all the gossip:

Why are you on Fox News? You are of better class than that, Liz. However, already having said I’d follow you anywhere, I guess I’m committed (or maybe should be). I am very interested in this project & will follow up.

I can’t liasten to video at work — no speakers on my computer.

Could you (or someone) post a transcript? Thanks.

I wonder if Anna Wintour can be a lesson about women at the top? Seems negative though. Even if people don’t like her, it’s certainly an example of how one woman is successful. Now we need an example of how to be on top and everyone likes you.

Liz,

That was great!  Thanks so much for posting it here.  Can’t wait to see the documentary.

Just saw the movie and I am already having flashback nightmares of the wrong clothes arriving for a shoot- this never actually happened but the jockeying for alpha dog position between art and edit and fashion sure did during my 30 years of shooting. Grace is just amazing and resilient. You need balls of steel to be a sittings editor and a very very thick skin.BRAVO GRACE !
