wOw Scenes: Our Gardens

Our gorgeous gals have intelligence, wit, charm and, of course, green thumbs! Take a look at the gardens of Judith Martin, Mary Wells, Marlo Thomas and more.

Photo Essay

What do we love about these summer months? The fresh air, green everywhere, flowers blooming, vegetables blossoming and the scent of cut grass in the air. Take a bird’s-eye look at the outside spaces of our wOw Women.

Do you have a breathtaking landscape or extraordinary garden? Send us photographs of your wOw-worthy yards with a short caption at submit@wowOwow.com for consideration in a future slide show.

I’ve enjoyed these very much.  I have photographs of my varied landscaping projects: my yard, my neighbors yards.  I’ve even landscaped graves.  I’ve built fieldstone walls.  Unfortunately…."organizing photographs" is on my list of "things to do" behind "creating a new filing system."  I’ll get there.

Me, 2, WC - I’m editing a manuscript (history of science) for publication, but … am an organic, xeric gardener, and love every minute of it, even now that I’m on "wheels." I’ll dig for some albums I’ve created the past 9 years here, fighting not only the heat but also winds!

I have to "catch up" with you, one day soon.

We’ve had an inordinate amount of rain in our area this summer, which comes with mixed blessings for the plants. Lushness, yes, but also the diseases.  I’ll be here, C jay..hanging out as time permits.

Same here  … lovely. Yes, we have the sweet mosquito, and it’s bringing in more disease, too - even the horses are getting it, here.

Washington Cube, I thought I ‘joined’ your blog, but it seems to have been the former site. Wondering.

I have an old blog linked into the new one.  Washington Daybook is the old.  The newer is

http://washingtoncube.blogspot.com

and it has been sorely neglected since I comment at length on wOw, so this week…back to blogging.

I hear that - I’m behind on a edit (for publication) of 52 pages, and I adore the topic (I wrote it!). ;-))

WC, I have been to the newer site, just remembered I ‘joined’ the former one, too.

Marlo’s home garden looks so serene, and green. I can almost hear the birds, and feel the light breeze. It makes me want to wander down the path through the woods.. and be lost in nature for awhile.

Liz and Mary have my kind of gardens! I have exactly ONE house plant. it’s a giant peace lily that was a gift. and it’s always on the verge of dying.

I see some parks…Central? My ‘garden" used to be Rock Creek Park. Now, outside Phoenix, it’s a vaguely murky koi pond with some nice lilies and tons of stickers, points, swords, jabbers, and hurty plants! The other day an itinerant yard neatner guy responded to my comment that I had killed lantana almost with admiration…"Those are hard to kill," he said.

I love my back yard. . I have a beautiful swimming pool with Four Tiled Dolphins swimming in the deep end.

I have Ivy, flowering trees and plants……..Lovely Patio furniture

I love to watch the hummingbirds drink the nectar from the Gorgeous Butterfly Plant.

I am also in love with my Front Yard which has 22 trees……..10 are California Redwoods. They are magnificent.

We just planted new items last week…….3 Passions vines to cover my front fence…….Can hardly wait for them to spread out and cover the fence.  It will probably take about 1 year.

I Also got some climbing vines to grow on the Railing I had installed on my disability Ramp out my front door……..they are going to be so pretty. Added some Blown Glass Solar Lights That glow so pretty at night. All different kinds of colors (constanly changing)

Now that I can’t do the physical labor I’m lucky that my new daughter in law loves the Garden and plants as much as I do………Now they have become her passion to keep beautiful.

Vogland Creations

Here’s a link to see my dolphins……….Donna’s pool in San Jose.

These photo’s were taken 4 years ago……….The Ivy has totally covered my fence. I have a wonderful Bonus…my neighbors planted a Trumpet vine and the flowers have crossed over into my yard totally covering the little pool house and intermingling with my shrubs on the side of the pool.  It’s gorgeous (Sorry I don’t have up to date photos to share)
