Shaheen Jafargholi Gives Susan Boyle Run for Her Money
Susan Boyle may have some competition.
Shaheen Jafargholi, a 12-year-old Welsh boy, wowed the crowd on "Britain’s Got Talent" last night, and even received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell – only after he struck out on his first attempt with an Amy Winehouse song, "Valerie." Jafargholi sang "Who’s Loving You," written by Smokey Robinson and once performed by a young Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five.
"This is how one song can change your life," Cowell told the pre-teen, who’s being described as a "young Stevie Wonder." "This may be the start of something special for you, young man." Click here to watch Jafargholi’s outstanding audition.
Boyle – who took the world by storm one week ago with her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" – is still trying to get used to her newfound fame, as is her tiny hometown of Blackburn, Scotland. The media has mobbed her town, she’s been invited to be on "Oprah" and her idol, Broadway singer Elaine Paige, even has said perhaps they should sing a duet. Boyle knew her fantastic voice would quiet her critics the moment she opened her mouth to sing – she just didn’t know just how much she would stun them.
"I heard people say things that weren’t very friendly. I knew what they were thinking," the 48-year-old told the Times in the U.K. "I knew people laughing and I knew they were laughing at me. But I thought, well, they’ll soon shut up when they hear me sing. And they did. I’ve never thought my voice was outstanding but I’ve always known I was a good singer."
