Bernard Madoff Psychic Profile: Peggy Rometo on Where the Money Went and More

Where did Madoff stash the billions? How much did Ruth know? Does the former NASDAQ chairman feel any shame? wowOwow’s Intuitive speaks.

Bernard L. Madoff, the man who masterminded what is believed to be the largest Ponzi scheme in history, was jailed yesterday after pleading guilty to 11 charges including securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering. The disgraced Wall Street trader, who said he was "deeply sorry and ashamed" for swindling investors out of $65 billion, will face 150 years behind bars when he is sentenced in June. We asked wOw Intuitive Peggy Rometo how it all came to pass — and what’s in store for America’s most hated villain.

wOw: How did it all begin?

Peggy: My feeling is that Madoff was approached by an underground group, possibly originating in Argentina or somewhere else in South America, to find a simple, creative way to make some extra money. I think he saw it as easy, conceptual, no big deal. It all began with an offshore investment and willing partners. He felt very protected within this network, and well hidden from the law.

wOw: What were the logistics?

Peggy: My sense is that he started out with money laundering. As he demonstrated his ability and proved himself, the group he was working with began to appreciate him deeply, which sparked a new, power-hungry lust that he had never felt before. This attitude grew until he was no longer in control.

wOw: Where did the money go?

Peggy: That’s the billion-dollar question! Madoff has used an interrelated network of conspirators and fraudulent accounts to hide and conceal wealth. The majority of his personal wealth feels connected to Geneva, Brussels, France and Denmark. For some odd reason, the Ukraine is coming up as well. My sense is that much of the money was paid to the initial group in South America. I don’t know if the U.S. is using a team in Boston to track it down, but there is help or insight to be found there. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that more than a fraction of what was swindled will ever be recovered.

wOw: Did Madoff ever feel culpable about his illegal activities?

Peggy: I feel that he only developed a conscience in the last decade or so. He learned to justify what he was doing by thinking of himself as a sort of Robin Hood, robbing the rich to contribute to the many charities he invested in (especially those that involved children). People’s gratitude and respect fueled his ego, and he began to believe his own spin on reality. He developed a righteous energy that made him feel invincible. But deep down, he always knew it would fall apart. The problem was that once the game got out of control, he didn’t know how to stop it.

wOw: Was Ruth Madoff aware of the fraud from the beginning?

Peggy: Over time, she had an instinct that something was not quite right. It reminds me of a woman who knows her husband’s having an affair, but doesn’t want to look too closely because she wants to stay married: "It’s not my business, and I don’t really want to know." But I don’t think she ever had a clue just how big the scam really was.

wOw: When did she find out what he was up to?

Peggy: Again, my sense is that she felt something was off, triggered by feelings she had when she met certain people he was working with years ago. I feel that a more glaring truth had to be revealed to her within the past 18 months to two years.

wOw: Did their sons, Mark and Andrew, know what was going on?

Here’s what I think should happen to Mr. Madoff.  Why should he go to prison and we have to support him?? Oh, for 157 years?  Get real.  I think the US Gov’t or Department of Treasury should seize all of his and HER assets, all the cash, jewelry, cars, homes and what-nots and take Mr. & Mrs. Madoff with only a lantern and a pup-tent, to one of our "Tent Cities" in this United States, and let them live their until they die.  Let him see what he has done and what’s it like to survive nowadays.  Why should he go to prison?  Ok, maybe a Coleman stove!  Does she cook?  She must, her only achievement was to publish a cookbook, so there you go.   By Nina Hall  3/16/09

Telling people’s horoscopes is the right job for a psychic; pontificating about serious news items in the absence of serious knowledge or information is unhelpful and, in fact, harmful.  Psychics need to be more intuitive in their choice of subjects.

the question was did his wife know, you cannot live a life style like that and close your eyes to everything, i am sure she not that stupid! for his sons, it take a lot of people around to pull off a reap-off like he did. oh the trust we put in people, he stopped that. i fell sorry for the victims.

Since his wife withdrew many millions (more than 15 as I recall) in the weeks before Madoff confessed to his crime, probably helped with the mailing of those watches and jewelry in December when Madoff was already under house arrest, arranged for their house in Florida to be declared her primary residence (so that it is immune to bancruptcy seizure), and now claims that she has more than $67 million in her own assets, it is clear that she is NOW a heartless bitch without a conscience.  Since she and Bernie have been together for 50 years, it is unlikely that she just recently BECAME a heartless bitch and, thus, I suspect she knew all along what was happening.

And now that the Madoff assets are deemed, by his lawyer, to be worth $823 million, where is Ruth saying:

"Please take all the money and distribute it among those whom my husband swindled.  Give some to Elie Wiesel for his Holocaust Foundation - how COULD my husband have swindled him and his Foundation?  Make sure that the elderly couple who can’t pay to remain in their nursing home get some money.  And that poor old man who has started working in a supermarket, send him a few bucks too.  I don’t deserve to live on the money stolen from so many innocent people and I shall not be able to sleep until I know that I have tried, as far as I can, to redeem the family name and to help those who, stupid or not, are now destitute because my husband is a thieving crook!"

I just googled her picture, and she is a very lovely looking woman. Not the "little woman " sort, but looking like a very saavy women. You can bet your boots she is very involved in all of this, and not some innocent.

Channeling Ruthie again…

"Oh, how sweeet of you to call me ‘very lovely’!  I haven’t had too many compliments lately.  In fact, nobody’s been very nice to me lately.  The security guards were so beastly, even though I paid for them with my own money.  I tried to be nice to them, especially the cute young one with curly blond hair (who kind of reminded me of Bernie when he was young).  But every time I tried to talk to one of them he’d say, "Not my job to talk to you, ma’am." Now, with Bernie on his little ‘downtown vacation,’ they’ve gone, of course, but I am sure that they’ll be back soon because no way is my little Bernikins going to stay downtown until June.  I wonder whether I should give a ‘little donation’ to one of Judge Denny’s favorite charities… Maybe that would help?  That would be the ‘savvy’ thing to do, wouldn’t it, Lizzie?  And, Lizzie, you don’t really think I had anything to do with Bernie’s little peccadillos, do you?  I’m just his ‘Little Ruthie" and my only real job was to take care of his ‘needs.’  In fact, every time I took care of his ‘needs,’ he’d put some money in my bank account.  He had $67 million dollars worth of ‘needs’ in 50 years of marriage.  You know how men are, don’t you, Lizzie?  So, when I said that $67 million is my money, Lizzie, I meant it. I earned it the hard way (no pun intended), Lizzie! You understand, don’t you, Lizzie?  Don’t you, Lizzie…?

Shucks, Sam, enough of this sentimental effusion~~perhaps Dame Ruthie will share in a prison snuggery spending her time writing gushy love notes to her husband in a cell above. Or~~she and he might take a tiny pill and call it a day before the courts can have their say.

Indeed, I suspect that Bernie will cheat us out of the pleasure of seeing him in jail for very long. Ruthie, being a woman, will probably tough it out.
