'The Daily Show' March 12 Video | 03/13/2009 8:30 am

Stewart Knocks Out Cramer on 'Daily Show' (Videos)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Jon Stewart takes down Cramer on 'Daily Show'

Both men came out swinging, but it may have been Jon Stewart’s win.

Stewart wasted no time hammering away at Jim Cramer, the CNBC host who incited Stewart’s anger with his questionable financial forecasts and cavalier attitude about his advice’s repercussions.

"I understand that you want to make finance entertaining, but it’s not a $%$^#$* game," Stewart told Cramer, adding in an expletive during the show’s Thursday taping. The episode aired on March 12 at 11 PM EDT on Comedy Central.

The Stewart vs. Cramer cable showdown has been a hot topic all week. Stewart has made Cramer the object of many jokes on his satirical show ever since Cramer’s co-host, Rick Santelli, canceled an appearance on the Comedy Central program. Since then, Stewart has been airing past clips of Cramer making bad financial calls — including assuring viewers it’s a-OK to invest in Bear Stearns just days before the financial institution tanked.

The CNBC host last night admitted that he should have forecasted the financial meltdown. "Should we have been constantly pointing out the mistakes that were made?" he said. "Absolutely." However, Cramer defended his on-air antics – which includes pushing sound boards, jumping, flapping his arms and throwing stuff as he provides stock tips. "I, too, like you, want to have a successful show."

In last night’s opening, Stewart announced that it was "go time" before playing a clip of Cramer’s guest appearance on Thursday’s episode of "The Martha Stewart Show," in which Cramer beat a mound of dough, pretending it was Stewart.

"Mr. Cramer, don’t you destroy enough dough on your own show?" he asked.

I was so proud of John Stewart he really let Cramer have it, and Cramer couldn’t refute anything he said as it was all on tape.  I don’t think he will have much credibility anymore on his show as being the "know all" voice on the economy!!

I watched it two times, last night…and Stewart was right on…Cramer wants us all to think that he ‘did not know that he was being lied to’—— that it’s not his fault , if somehow, he mislead investors—that is all BS….Cramer, who claims to be really really smart—and highly intuitive about the stock market as well….knowingly manipulated…..

The general population….meaning those who do not follow the stock market, specific companies, or those who do not read analyst newsletters, and keep up with company financials—-are easy pickens’…and that is who Cramer is appealing to, with all his excuses…he is appealing to those who need someone to tell them what to do regarding their stocks—-they call them ‘sheeples’….and they are easily manipulated.

Those who make it their business to keep up with those sorts of things, can EASILY recognize what he was doing—-manipulating the sheeples, so that he and his friends could bail out of a dead stock before it made the news….or drive the stock down for his hedge fund friends who bet against it on the short side….

Cramer cannot tout himself as ‘the peoples’ stock guru on a day when everything is going OK for him, and then claim ‘he didn’t know they were doing that’…as excuse when the corruption and manipulations are ’miraculously’ discovered.

Mike, I’m waiting to hear your opinion of Stewart’s interview with Cramer seeing as you said Stewart was going to be made a fool of!!   I think it was rather the reverse don’t you?  I’m sure that I wont’ be hearing from you though as your notion has been blown out of the water!!!

Hi EKA darlin’….I have no reason to watch Cramer….."got no diamonds, got no pearls, still I think I’m a lucky girl…" (sing along the rest…) and I really don’t need to listen to shouting…(I can get enough of that on wow in sort of blessed silence…UPPER case notwithstanding…..) Do love Stewart and Maher…but you knew that….and Jeneane Garofolo on Countdown was a hoot….Anyway, it occurs to me that anyone who takes Cramer’s advice to heart might as well get, and deserves same,  medical advice from watching re-runs of Doogie Howser, M.D….And just a little sisterly observation: That fuzzy poster to whom who have responded…oooooh…..Reminds me of sitting with the girls in the convertible at the local drive-in restaurant when the greasers would pull in next to us in the chopped Chevy with the little blue dot tail lights…..(my fundamentalist granny had me convinced that those glowy purplish lights along with loafers with no socks were outward manifestations of Satan himself..) So the girls would say…."There they are! There they are ! Isn’t Duane precious? Not as cute as Earl! Don’t look at ‘em….don’t look at ‘em…..just don’t look at ‘em"…….

Georgia dear, You are TOO funny !!

My non-fundamentalist buy high Irish Mum said the same thing about the cute Protestant boys on the motorcycles with denim jackets and black boots …. exactly the ones that I thought were soo cute.  But I was also attracted to the really smart, funny Jewish boys, little guys that would make me laugh …….wait, that sounds like Jon Stewart !

I watched the show, with great anticipation, and thought, why does it take a COMEDIAN to voice better than any "real’ newsperson the anger and frustration that is being felt by the average person who is living their life, following the rules, saving their money, socking it away in a 401K, as we’re told we SHOULD do since there are no pensions anymore, and watch half of it disappear before our eyes. Meanwhile, the people who should know, whose BUSINESS it is to know, were totally in the pockets of the CEOs and hedge funds, actually MAKING money as we were losing ours.

God bless Jon Stewart !! He is one person who actually GETS it and I hope he keeps this up. He has struck a chord here, witnessed by the fact that this debate has gone viral. And the look of abject shame on Cramer’s face said it all, he now knows he was a fool. Times they are a’changing ….

Thank you Jon Stewart, you are my new hero.

I was really glad Stewart did not go soft on Cramer as sometimes he tends to go a little soft on questions with some of his guests and make fun of it more than be serious.  This time though he really nailed it as I think he was really p’d off with Cramer and his "know it all" predictions which were wrong and the scams that go on behind the scenes etc.  I hope we see him being more assertive with his guests if it is on a serious issue.

linlu .

I am buying this episode on iTunes.

More than anything else, Jon Steward discredited the entire financial reporting industry as nothing more than cheerleaders for the CEOs, manipulators and crooks.

I have to agree with John: to everyone at any of the "financial" channels,

F$¢K YOU!!!

It’s a shame that people can be misguided by talking heads. It’s great that John has called them on it.

God Bless Stewart.   Those stupid people who gave money to Maddoff and lost their 401K, sold bad mortgages that were repackaged and renamed.  When it all came crashing down- feel sorry for wall street bankers.  What no bonus?  No lavish getaways?

The Republicans think it is okay to blame ordinary people( I would say ordinary Joe but Joe the plumber- I donlt like Joe anymore) Those stupid people and their mortgages and foreclosures.  Pit the poor bankers they are getting picked on now.  It was just business this a capitalistic society get over it.   Now your credit card interest rates that you thought were set are going up.  But they promised you that if you paid on time they would not raise them and yet they did.
