The only time I bet Thoroughbreds is the Triple Crown. I mostly bet Quarter Horses. I make anywhere from 5 to 10k a year on horses. So yeah I bet regularly. See my avitar.
first time on this site. when saw question re horse races had to share this. I always like to watch the triple crown series. Started to watch the K Derby PR and pre-info. Was in and out from watching. Did not know any history of horses competing but then suddenly saw the list of names. When I saw ‘mind that bird’ I laughed. Since I am a birder per se, I thought ‘gee, maybe I will just bet on that name for the fun of it’. Needless to say I did not, SOooo when the winner came in I was basically a littled freaked to say the least. Certainly was a weird feeling. Shoulda woulda coulda scenario for sure! Damm
Hi Frannie, as a child I desperately wanted a palamino. (I got a duck and a turtle instead - since I grew up in an apartment for the first part of my childhood) I did the occassional riding stables - with no lessons until I was in my 40’s. That is when I learned to water ski and ride. I love horses and just loved riding them. I enjoyed so much their different personalities, how their gait, trot, cantor rhythms etc were so different, and their immmense power always blew me away. I would love to have my own horse, but I hurt my back (not from riding) and do not think I can get back into it anymore. In my dreams. One thing though that I found disappointing was that the horses did not seem to develop any affection for the humans. Did you see this? The family that ran the riding school said that horses were indifferent to people.
i have only played the ponies once and that was back in the early 90’s. somebody that played them a lot (too much if you ask me) told me first time players ALWAYS win. well, i didn’t know my ass from a hole in the wall so i didn’t understand the betting stuff. i bet like $5 and lost it and never bothered with it again, it just wasn’t my thing. but my kids liked the horses and the playground at golden gate fields in san mateo, ca (15 miles south of san francisco).
if nevada has race tracks they are down in vegas. so i have no opportunity to be near any horses here. but my grandson’s fathers mother has trained them in the past so he has been on them with daddy or other family. just not with us around.
Hello … I am new to the site … I am a psycholoist and teach
psychotherapy theories at a medical school … I would like to get to
know others on the site, or you can tell me, how this site works ..
Thank you.
Years ago loved to going to Quarter horse racing. It was a lot of fun. Until one night a horse fell, the horse got up off the ground, starting running down the track with is leg swinging all over the place.
His leg was broken, it took a while for them to caught him. I could never watch a race again. I was so anxious thinking a horse would fall. I finally stopped goin.
I never bet on horses, HOWEVER, we were at a wedding on Saturday, Derby Day, and a bunch of us wore big hats, they served Ming Julips and had a huge TV to show the race before we went in to dinner.
AND .. as it happened, there was a horse named Papa Clem and my husband’s name is Clem, so we placed a few bets before the wedding. For a minute there we were excited because he was in 2nd place … the horse, not my husband ( who’s always in 1st place for me ;-) but he finished 4th.
