No, although I do own a ‘73 Mercury Marquis that probably gets 12 mpg. However, it’s got about 44,000 original miles, so I’ll probably keep it.
Glad to see the program got off to a quick start, although the logistics of it were helter-skelter. It’ll be interesting to see for how long it might be extended.
I voted other because I never owned a car. Not that I was that environmental conscious, but my blood pressure went up dangerously dealing with the other drivers out there (and I am sure they thought the same of me).
I wasn’t going to, but then my husband decided to trade in his van for a car. We were into our Chevy dealer last Thursday and I have never seen it so busy. They sure were selling cars that day, good for them!!!
Good for the dealerships, not good for the people and the economy. I think a lot of people are eager to take advantage of this and are buying cars they won’t be able to afford a few months down the road, then what?
My hubby and I would love to trade his 94 chevy pick up truck that gets about 15 mpg in on something newer and better gas mileage he hasnt owned it for a year so we dont qualify…oh well……missed that govt money.
Wow, like I didn’t know really how people got around. Nice comments so far. And for the don’t drive one, nice! My nephew is like that too, drunk driving and a bad accident there. Me, I’m still driving my 72 MGB all summer long. Don’t dare for the winter because of the salt on the roads. Got over 416 thousand miles on it so far.
But I must say the way they scrap the car will make them that is left worth more for parts alone.
Once again, America forgets that money has to come from somewhere and there is no "free lunch.’
Here we go again, just how we crashed the world markets last September - and Bush nationalized the banks! Let’s move on into a new era of reality, please!
We have a clunker that would qualify, but we did the math and the car is worth more than $4,500 to us. We certainly couldn’t replace it for that. And there’s no way we could save enough gas to justify buying a new car before we need one.
I drive 2 muscle cars for a reason. I love the power and I love the speed. Not interested in trading in two cars I OWNOUTRIGHT and cause an even BIGGER drain on my fellow taxpayers. We all know where that $4,000 "allowance" from the govt is coming from, all of our pockets. Thanks anyway, but I think I’m gonna hold on to my guzzlers till they fall apart in the driveway, LOL!

We traded in our clunkers (93 Toyota pick-up, 91 Toyota MR2) many years ago. We’re now driving an 03 Honda Civic Hybrid and an 05 Toyota Prius.
If I had it to do over, I’d have bought the Honda Civic GX:
•Advanced Technology Partial-Zero-Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV)
•Fueled by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for nearly zero emissions

C Jay,
The way I begrudgingly see it, they’ve already allocated the money so if it keeps someone employed, fine.
But what bothers me is that I still don’t know how GM is being run. Have they gotten rid of those outrageous retiree benefits?
