Jim Cramer vs. Jon Stewart | 04/15/2009 9:15 am

Jim Cramer: Jon Stewart 'Ambushed' Me on 'Daily Show' (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Jim Cramer on 'The Daily Show'

"Mad Money" host Jim Cramer is still reeling from his not-so-pretty face-to-face with Jon Stewart last month. He now says "The Daily Show” host launched a "complete and utter ambush" on him.

In the latest of the very public tit-for-tat, which Stewart started when he took on CNBC and Cramer for not doing due diligence in uncovering the financial mess, Cramer recently told Ohio State’s The Lantern newspaper: "He [Stewart] told my staff that it was going to be fun, convivial, no clips, but [it] doesn’t matter, he’s a comedian, he can do whatever he wants."

Instead of a "fun" interview on "The Daily Show" set March 12, Stewart took swipe after swipe at Cramer, replaying old clips of Cramer talking about the advantages of short-selling. Cramer told The Lantern that Stewart also edited the clips in a way that portrayed Cramer in a bad light, highlighting the bad stock calls he has made.

"Was it a fair fight? No, it wasn’t even a fight. I came on with the idea of taking a high road approach and discussing the issues, obviously [Stewart] came on strictly to try to humiliate me," Cramer said. "It was brutal. Was he stand-up? Absolutely not. Did he comport himself as a gentleman? Hardly. It was a deposition; he wants to be a prosecutor. He had an animus toward me."

Keep talking Jim—you’re beginning to sound like Rush and Glen.  You knew what you were getting into by going on the show, Jim.  Ambushed, hell.

When has Jon Stewart ever been honest, number one, and No.2 when would he ever Not ambush anyone that would dare to say anything even remotely, that would slightly sound like they are criticizing President Obama.  Stewart is a scumbag and a mean one at that!  Humorous, attacking people all the time, yeah! that is just hysterical!

You see, this is what is happening to this country. People seeing the same thing and getting a TOTALLY different take on it depending on where they get their news … absolutely polarizing. I watched that show, I even downloaded it to my iTouch, and said "Thank God Jon Stewart is voicing the anger that people feel, and doing a much better and clearer than any ‘newsman’ , These Wall analysts were totally in cahoots with the bankers and lying to the American people. Good for Jon Stewart "

Jim Cramer got what was coming and is now in damage control. I’m sure you love Chris Matthews now because he has been fawning all over Cramer. Maybe he’s doing it because Stewart skewered Matthews also. I’m beginning to think the young people have it right, Jon Stewart cuts through all the bulls**t.

EKA—you are hitting a nail right on its head…..I totally agree with you…but for those who hate Jon Stewart, or for those who LUV Jim Cramer, BECAUSE they are influenced by the news they listen to—may I say this—-you might be ‘missing out’ on the truth!  hahahaha   dare I say more?  why of course!

Several years ago, I used to watch Cramer on CNBC….ringing his bells, shouting his words and opinions about stocks—until the day I KNEW he was lying about the company he was telling everyone to sell——I had just spoken THAT day, to a customer of one company that I held stocks in.  that same day, I spoke to the company IR people, and I spoke with a local hospital administrator about the plans to buy a particular piece of hospital equipment made by the company I held shares in…….COINCIDENTLY, that night, Cramer gave the company a thumbs down—-and those who do not or cannot think for themselves, immediately began putting in their orders to sell off their shares!  I watched it as it happened on my Level II!

The ‘truth’ was that this company had the nerve to ‘compete’ with a bigger and richer company.  So the plan was to destroy their stock price…and the hedge funds, no doubt, had placed thier bets ahead of time, betting that the price would go DOWN…after Cramer did his thing, the price DID go down…and those who were holding short shares made tons of money…but the guy who watches Cramer, and pays full price, LOST a ton of money…..Now here is part 2….within a minute, Cramer—who told the audience what the TICKER was…said ‘oops—-I gave you the wrong ticker—-by mis-stating ONE Stock ticker—-Cramer and his buds made lots of money, on the backs of the regular retail guy who does not have inside information.

For those who actually follow and trade n the stock market—the joke is this:  whatever Cramer tells you to do—-do the opposite.

So if you just don;t like Jon Stewart because he picked on your capitalist guru….without knowing ANYthing behind the story—to help you understand why Stewart was protecting you….well….then you deserve to suffer the financial calamities bestowed upon you from this economic meltdown….Cramer is supposed to be a smart man—so how could he NOT know?  An addendum..that stock I told you about earlier?  One share was being lent out to shorts 19 times….so 1 share, was divieded up into 19 different pieces….those 19 shares were not paid for at full price…so the 19 holders of that one share ALL made HUGE money…the guy who paid full price for one share…lost huge money…It is commonly known as ‘manipulation of the stock market"…but , well, that is what Cramer is good at—-and Stewart called him on it, and now Cramer is asking you to feel sorry for him….gheez!

EKA- Thanks for your informative posts and it is the kind that I love to receive because it does to help me look at things differently.  I still do not care for Stewart, if he would also make fun of Obama and the people around him-like he did Bush, which actually he hated him and was out to destroy him, but anyway I guess his type of humor would go much further with me.  He is not fair. I did see the show and I guess I have difficulty in playing Gotcha! without the person knowing it and he is suppose to be a comedian.  But like you said, I also do not feel I can trust the news at all anymore. I will be more opened minded and I have to tell you I WOULD NEVER EVEN WATCH CHRIS MATTHEWS-EVER.EVER,EVER!!!  I don’t choose who I watch because they support someone that was attacked, infact, I can not stand MSNBC!!!  Except, Morning Joe-everyday.  Have a good one.

Hi Deborah, This is the conversation we need to have. I swear, sometimes I think we are living in two different countries. The left/right ‘arguments’ that go on here sometimes are angry and polarizing, but more than that - how do we get these ideas ! We are all Americans, we love our country, but this is getting really bad, and I don’t think it is good for the country.

You say you can’t stand MSNBC, I say I can’t stand FOX … wait a minute, these are news stations, aren’t they supposed to be reporting the same news ? Can they BOTH be wrong….. or right. Is there manipulation going on here with us being the pawns in a rating game ?  You say you never, ever, ever watch Chris Matthews - I have been watching him for 15 years and I see a man who loves politics, sees the humor in it, certainly knows the history and actually makes fun of the democrats  A LOT. I don’t see anything malicious about him at all, but granted he comes to his views from a liberal perspective.  I would say to you that if you gave him a chance, you would see that …. ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU would tell ME the same thing about Neil Cavuto, or Bill O’Reilly  ( I will not give in on Limbaugh, I see him as dangerous )

This is not where we should be going in this country. There has GOT to be some reasonable middle ground, some perspective that treats us as intelligent adults. There can not be FOX facts & MSNBC facts … what is happening here ?

Hi EKA, I could not agree with you more!  It is like living in two different countries.  It is absolutely Crazy.  I use to love Chris Matthews until the primaries and I hated the way he treated Hilary Clinton.  Actually, the nail that closed the coffin for good was when he got the tickle up his leg, regarding Obama.  You and I can have tickles up and down our legs but not a journalist nor a commentary.  I do watch O’Reilly, alot of times with a grain of salt depending on the story. But for the most part I just watch the news on Fox and not any of the other programs.  EKA- I don’t know where we can go and get the truth anymore.  It is an issue like you suggested that must be addressed.  What has happened? I was upset yesterday regarding the tea parties.  They were about the American people not Obama, nor the liberals.  It was not reported anywhere as news, just making fun of us, in something I believe in and want to know what Washington is going to do about it.  It never crossed my mine that it was a political party issue and definitely not a President Obama issue.  Just all of Washington including Bush.  But once again, the real story was never even touched on, particularly by CNN and MSNBC.  I was informed these would take place 3 months ago through a friend, it was not Fox.  Please do not misunderstand, I am Not Implying that Fox is not just as guilty as the other networks.  I just will never understand what did happen with the news, just like you said, "aren’t they suppose to be reporting the Same news?"  Yes They Are!!  But until we the people come together and decide we will not tolerate this, it will not change because it all comes down to ratings.  But there has to be many people like us EKA, I know that there are and I believe that only we can change it. Call for a boycott of all news until they all start reporting the real and same news without anymore slants. I do not know the answer but I feel as strongly as you do!  By the way- I have never listened to Limbaugh and can’t say I ever will.  Agreed!  They fuel our anger and they are all loving it, and as much as I hate to admit it, I know I am guilty of letting them into my home by watching them, so I don’t watch alot of new anymore, heck I don’t even trust the newspapers!  So where do we go?  We do need this conversation.  What a great post/reply, thank you for it and I agree 100% with all that you shared.  Have a good day, just don’t watch the news!  One more thing, regarding tea parties, I know there are always exceptions for everything and I am sure there were some that took it as an opportunity to sling mud, but that absolutely was not our goal, there were so many Americans from both sides.  It was awesome!

Cramer knew what he was walking into—he’s just embarrassed by the way he came across. He knew he couldn’t defend himself so he just sat there. C’mon Cramer—stop whining & get on with it. What’s done is done & you can’t change the tape.

I am usually one that likes people but there are 2 in the Entertainment Talkshow industry I can’t stand, David Lettermanand Jon Stewart. Those two can’t hold an sensible conversation if their life depended on it!! And talk about 2 people that love to insult people, those two are King and Prince of it!

jim?  i think you should ask jon to meet with you on neutral terms, of YOUR liking, and rules of YOUR liking, in fact, EVERYTHING of your liking!

YOU STILL CANNOT DEFEND THE POOR CALLS THAT YOU MADE!

TRYING TO LIE YOUR WAY OUT OF IT, WAS TYPICAL, BUT A FAILURE!

This is funny to read. I watched the interview and he had every opportunity to refute Jon’s claims against him. He didn’t because he could not. His very words were a noose around his neck. What Jim needs to focus on now is changing his message to his viewers.

hahha, belinda, in a way he has…and oh I just can’t help it—but I have to say this:

Cramer has gone from ‘I can make you rich’ to ‘poor me’……all in a nanosecond, or was that 12 minutes?  ;-D

You know Belinda, Cramer started to do that but now he seems to be backing off of it. Makes you wonder why? I have watched Cramer over the years but never took his advice on stock picks as my broker is the best. Cramer, before he got his own show was a better person than what he is now. Jon Stewart nailed him fair and square. While I luv Cramer when he is himself and not some ego maniac, the tryth is, he did a lot of damage to people and should shut up and take responsiblity. That also goes for the other wind bags on CNBC!
