Joan Ganz Cooney: Those Against Cash for Clunkers Should Remember WWII
I like the "green" aspects of Cash for Clunkers so I support cash for foreign clunkers, especially if they are replaced by fuel-efficient cars and if it helps the American auto industry. As someone who remembers World War 2 and our need for airplanes and tanks, I want to see a strong manufacturing base again in the U.S. So Cash for Clunkers strikes me as a good idea for more than one reason.

canuck, we just can’t make this stuff up, can we? Now our used car businesses are a standstill. Is it too much to ask that this administration do something right? If they can’t run Cash for Clunkers, a very small program, correctly, like "reimbursing" the dealerships for their upfront outlay (remember these dealerships haven’t been selling cars for over a year) before they ran out of money, how can we expect them to run healthcare for Americans?
Healthcare Reform is a bridge too far for the Harvard guys.
"Economists can argue back and forth in the media about the effect of big government programs such as the stimulus package and Obamacare but few things have illustrated government waste as effectively as this disturbing YouTube video in which a well running Volvo engine was destroyed as part of the Cash for Clunkers program. This video is currently going viral on the Web and has sparked outraged comments from many people whom I suspect have previously remained somewhat uninterested in the often elusive topic of economics. However, the wasteful destruction of this car seems to have awakened an economic sense of revulsion to an extent rarely seen before. "
Now some DEALERSHIPS are asking their customers to sign a document that if the government DOESN’T reimburse them for fronting the $4500 the customer will pay it back to them. Even the dealerships have no confidence in this administration to actually stand behind their commitment. Folks, this country is in trouble from lack of leadership.
Here is a sampling of their YouTube comments which are in sharp contrast to the glowing praise of the Cash for Clunkers program prevalent in the MSM:
