Mary Wells: 'Change the Road You're On'
There is no first thing. I would take a good, hard look at the whole picture, including whether I was happy before being fired and what my dream career and life was and where it would be and what I am good at and should be making the most of. I would painfully force myself to see the time as a godsent opportunity to love my life. I have been in this position and know how hard it is to do what I have just suggested, but I have looked back and have seen how long and dull my life would have been if I had not changed the road I was on.

I was just laid off today, in fact, as part of a "strategic" reduction in force. I was with one organization for 20 years but had several different jobs within. The job I was laid off from was writing for a magazine. Considering the economy I even came away with a good severance package. But I have no idea what I will do next. I don’t know what my dream career is.
I know I could really use some help in figuring that out.
