'Red Fox' Liz Claman Is in It for the Distance

By Kristin Fritz
Liz Claman/Fox Business Network
LIZ: I did it. I did it. And it taught me something that I know U.S. military guys know, and the Marines know, when they have to just take one more step when they’ve been up for four days and they’re exhausted and they think, “I can’t do it.” You know, my respect for them … I looked at how Marines trained when I trained for this marathon and I realized your brain can force you to take one more step. It took me forever to run the darn thing – five and a half hours – because I ran it injured. I had a hip injury by then.

wOw: Ouch. How did you injure yourself?

LIZ: At the end of my training. And then I suffered — it’s funny now, but it wasn’t then — internal bleeding.

wOw: Oh, my God, Liz!

LIZ: But I made it. You know, I made it. And there were people dropping like flies to my right and my left and this one guy — we were step for step and we were running along and he just looked perfect. You know how you pick people along the marathon route? So I’m thinking, "I’m going to hang with this person for now.” I hadn’t said a word to him and all of the sudden he stopped. I thought, “What are you doing? Dude, keep running!” And I just kept running. He stopped. He gave up.

But I’m in … I’m actually enrolled to do the Nautica Triathlon in July. I’m going to Israel first, actually, because my cousin is going to be the U.S. Men’s Basketball Team coach for the Maccabiah games. He’s the head basketball coach for the University of Tennessee. So we’re going to go cheer him on, and then five days later I’m back to do the Nautica Triathlon. And then I think I’ll be done. Enough already with thinking I’m No. 1. Enough already.

wOw: You say that, Liz but, you know, everybody says that and everybody keeps doing it.

LIZ: Exactly. Exactly.

wOw: And triathlons are great. They’re a good change from the havoc that running could wreak on your body.

LIZ: Yes. Although somebody said I have to go get a wetsuit and some tetanus shots, because the swim is in the Hudson. Lovely.

wOw: You’ll be fine. I don’t think you need tetanus shots. Well, talk to your doctor … Did you hear about the jellyfish during last year’s race?

LIZ: I did. I’m a Jew from Beverly Hills. I can’t deal with jellyfish.

wOw: The jellyfish were an anomaly. But the race — why are you doing it?

LIZ: In the end it’s really to make your heart stronger. I’m in for the distance, whether that’s as a mom, to be healthy for these kids, or to keep fighting the good fight at Fox Business. The body’s your temple and you’ve got to take care of it, and besides, you know, you want to look good. This is television, babe. I just spoke to a big group – the Truckload Carriers Association – about the economy and about Fox Business, and I said to the truckers, “What should my handle be?” They all came up with the "Red Fox," which worked perfectly with my red hair and then Fox Business.

wOw: Perfect.

LIZ: And they said, the “Red Fox.” And I said, “OK. For the truckers I’m going to be the Red Fox.” So, you know, you’ve got to live up to the image, right?

Love this Liz Claman. She is INSPIRING and sparkles with her intelligence. Thank you for the great profile, I’m turning to Fox Business. She tells it like it is regarding women and issues. Very interesting.

I just learned a lot from this woman. I haven’t watched Liz until now but I will. She’s rather well-spoken yet seemingly approachable. Good luck to her, she deserves it

It is great to see Ms. Claman speak so highly of small business, and interview some as well, but, when will FBN have small business leaders on to talk about how Congress and the President are slowly, but surely killing off small businesses?

Congrats to Kristin Fritz, the interviewer.  Wonderful job.  I read every paragraph.

Liz Claman states  that 80% of Americans are employed by a small business owner.  That is a statistic that does not resonate with the current administration.  I hope it will soon.  The restraint is probably because most of these companies are not affiliated with a union or involved in government contracts.

I also liked the part of the interview when Ms. Claman admits that as a working wife and mother, she does not apologize for not being the parent who attends every school event or activity for her children.  She understands that a woman must first take care of herself, emotionally and physically, so that she can be the best Mom she can be and when she tells her children she loves them, they believe her and do not require her attendance to prove her love.  She and her husband have found the right balance for their family.  Good for her.

As a trader, I need quicker coverage of Breaking News and impacts on the market.  Although I have issues with CNBC - I find Fox Business is caught up in too many and too lengthy personal interest stories that have left me blind to what is happening NOW this second in the market.  I have been impressed with Liz’s knowledge - but I can’t handle all of the touchy feely personal interest stories - save that for a one hour show after the markets have closed.  Until Fox Business does this - I have no alternative but to watch CNBC and Bloomberg News.
