Whenever I become distressed or feel overwhelmed by personal problems or by distressing national and internation news, I escape to a favorite bookstore to browse. Ocassionally, I don’t buy anything. Yet, I usually see a book, a greeting card, or a CD, which captures my interest. I especially like private owned bookstores for browsing. More often, these ‘special’ tucked away bookstores carry used books, and/or first and second editions of best sellers, which are sold at reasonable prices. And, when I go browsing to ‘escape’, I usally purchase a title, which - under different circumstance - I proably would never purchase.
And of course, when I’m done browsing … I later buy some ice cream.
I too love books … but no matter the season, no matter the economy, they are so part of my everyday life - a craving that beats out chocolate. But I believe my response to "bad times" would be friends — not just any friends, but dear friends that I feel I can say anything in the world to and they will understand. Sometimes, even the best of us want to "hole up", a trait we all share when things get "too much". But talking on the phone allows us to not let things simmer inside, making us worse, but the spilling it out is good for body and soul, isn’t it? We usually feel better and can make those first small steps forward, our special box of chocolate in hand, of course!!!! Joan
Usually I do not put on lipstick, but here lately. I have been using it around the house as well when I go out. I had not even considered it, until it was mention, else where. I was sitting here thinking I even worn some to the doctor’s office…. Now I went there to talk with him about changing Dr’s, I wonder if he understood. I do not think so. LOL
My Nintendo DS Lite (that I bought months before I was unemployed) is my simple pleasure. Memory games and intricate mysteries seem like a luxury now, but times when I cannot sleep, I get into bed, and play those infuriating games until drowsiness makes its debut.
Of course, nothing can replace a really good book, but I am getting those at the library now. Sometimes I will visit the neighborhood used bookstore, donate some of my own books, and breathe in the air. There is nothing like the smell of a used bookstore. Nothing.
Since I’m addicted to salt, I’m most likely to reward myself with a bag of popcorn. Reward myself for making it through another day unscathed. Of course my heart is screaming, NO, but what does it know.
As for lipstick, I stick with the pinky stuff. Reds and darker colors are too cruel on an older pale face. IMHO.
I love a big bowl of Homemade Potato Soup with a big glass of Iced Tea.
Curl up in my recliner chair and watch a good movie.
