Nope Connie! Speaking for myself, there are many ways of performing/Donating Charitable goods and services to those in need. Not everyone has the time to donate themselves by being continually present day in and day out, at a given site……Some of us do it in increments.
I’m doing it all - NOTHING, traveling, volunteering, setting up my studio and searching for meaning in this new place, called retirement. Got a new husband and a new dog. Training the dog is easier! It still feels funny not having a structure so I’m going back and forth between writing goals for every day, and saying "the heck with it". Bu t every day starts with prayer and meditation and gratitude. And the question of the day is always "What can I do to make a difference in someone’s world.
After paying income tax, I would divide a windfall like that into 30% paydown of mortgage principal/30% deposit to retirement account/30% into the kids’ 529s. And I would keep working. It’s time to keep building assets and saving for rainier days, I think.
I’d go back to school and take something I would love to take but don’t have the time now. I would love to improve my skills as a therapist…there is always room to learn new ways of doing therapy. What a great idea! What a great question…thanks!
I’d spend the first 10 months working 18 hours days, acting as an advisor in the worst animal shelters, training them in the Nathan Winograd method. The 11th month I’d be sailing in the Marianas, then the last month just vegetating on the beach.
