Whoopi your the best!!! I believe in giving what you can where you can.  There are ways to make sure your giving to a viable charity.  What I worry about is the person who knocks on my door with a can "Are they honest".  I can’t give money as much as I can give of my time; so I get involved as much as possible.  There are many ways to give of yourself!!!

My time and money go to charitable organizations that are tangible to me.  Komen foundation started in Dallas back in the 80’s when I got involved.  Lance Armstrong foundation started in Austin where I was living for a time and I have an original  yellow braclett and cheered him on his bike down Congress Ave!  I appreciate Maria Shriver’s Project Alzheimer’s and the Alzheimer’s Org.’s Memory Walk, since this is an issue close to my heart.  Yes, I did the Memory Walk and we ended up where we started!!! ha! BringChange2Mind sparks my interest, too.

I went to Guatamaula on a Mission Trip organized by the Methodist Church (I’m not Methodist) where we installed a septic system and took a team of doctors and pharmacists.  It was a blast and very eye opening.

I want to thank all you on the wOw website for being an outlet for me between the hours of 4-10 am when I sit with my Dad who is sick and has Alzheimer’s.  This intelligent outlet helps me cope and maintain some sense of sanity!

The ones dear to our heart:  Susan  G. Komen, Salvation Army, Disabled Vets, ASPCA, and the local food pantry.  We don’t give a lot, but we limited who we give to so we can do the most good. We are confident that our money is making a difference.

We get LOTS of requests,though.

Hi Whoopi, I do not like to send money because I am not convinced that it goes for what I want it to go for. So I contribute food to food pantry’s,donate to my Church and sometimes buy breakfast for certain people who eat out and I know they are using the last of their money to do so. I also donated to Obama during his campaign, actually  quite a bit and I could not afford it but I new he had to win if anything was going to change. I also donate on occasion to homeward bound for food for animals. I also contribute food for the Holidays to our Church. I wish I could do more. Who can keep up with it?

Ms. Whoopi…

I do like the programs Comic Relief supports …

Are there any plans to work with groups in the USA?

I would be completely open to doing an auction with some art for groups here, given our current crisis faced by US citizens. …right now my focus is on home.

Did you happen to watch CBS Sunday morning this week? Apparently several living artists are auctioning in the millions right now…which is always a good thing for living artists. Here’s the link to the story:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/25/sunday/main5419088.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody

I’ve always said art is a commodity to be used as a fundraiser supporting programs that support people.

I would love to work with you…

Amy -

I wonder if you’re confusing this Comic Relief - http://www.comicrelief.com - based in the UK, with Whoopi’s Comic Relief which does work with groups in the US. The most recent link I can find is this one - http://www.comicrelief.org/

Ms. Whoopi,  To give to others is the greatest gift we give to ourselves.  I am in no position to help anyone finically right now (cancer patient), but I give what I can.  I give to the homeless shelters, cloths, shoes, books to enlighten ones day, all my work suits and shoes, purses, to help women get on their feet and dress for the interview.  When it was made clear I’d never be able to work in my field again (stress of any kind makes me physically ill) I got all my work related cloths together and gave them to the women’s shelter.  My son and his friends are getting a concert together for the spring to support "All Cancer" research, in his heart it’s for Mom and breast cancer, and I love him even more for doing this, it will be held in D.C.  Date is not yet set, but you can bet I’ll let you know. All entertainers will be donating their time and all proceeds will go to cancer research.  I give what I can when I can and I know in my heart God approves.

The local food pantry makes a difference along with the salvation army, Goodwill Industries and many others.  I donate to these and others such as the local homeless shelter for families.
