I am allergic to the common base they use in flu shots, depends if having a tennis ball size lump on my arm outweighs the benefits. In normal years, they have an alternative shot that can be given just unsure if it will be available this year with this strain of flu.
Already got the regular flu shot at Walgreens which offers it every day instead of once or twice a season. However, the swine flu hasnt even been offered yet. Will have to call my primary care doctor to see if and when it will be available and his office said not to call until October so have a couple of days yet before I do that.
Argggghhhh, that is all I need to hear. Since I have already gotten my regular flu shot there is nothing I can do about it but I will get the swine flu shot also if it is offered. Thanks, Cecile, for sharing the info about the possible effects of one shot vs the other. Good info to have.
I’m always very skeptical when a new vaccine comes on the market. There are two different types of this vaccine (at least that’s my understanding). The nasal spray contains live antibodies to build your immune system, but it’s not recommended for all patients. I am considered a high risk because I have Lupus. Last year was the first time I agreed to a flu shot etc, so I will have to have an in depth discussion with my physician about this.
I will not be getting any shots. Especially if this administration mandates it, I do not trust one thing that they have to say. They tell you one thing, and then later we find out that they have done something else. They are liars and I will not put something into my body that may or may not have repercussions later.
I’m not of high risk so no I won’t be getting it, nor will my kids. We’ll take a chance on the illness. As long as it’s treated properly as with any flu it sucks to get ill however it just is what it is .. it’s the flu.
According to my doctor H1N1 vaccine won’t be available until probably November. If you have a medical condition check with your doc. I did and when it’s available I’m getting it.
I work in a hospital setting for people who have diminished immune systems. It would be irresponsible of me to NOT have the H1N1 shot, even though I am not otherwise in a high risk category. For their sakes, because I care about them, I am having the shot.
I’m allergic to the base they use for the shot also. I don’t usually get a flu shot because of the allergy. I don’t want to be on other meds just to get the shot.
I will definitely get it. The H1N1 is not something to be taken lightly, given all of the deaths that are being attributed to it. I equate this to the hundreds of thousands of women who feel their children should not be vaccinated because they don’t believe in "polluting their children’s bodies with artificial things" Only to have these very children develop illnesses that can be spread from one person to another. Mothers putting other children at risk just to satisfy their own selfish and misguided desires.
The same rings true with the H1N1 virus. I’m concerned about those who choose not to get vaccinated and then end up acquiring it, passing it along to others. This is not a run of the mill - generic flu - this one should be taken seriously by everyone. It’s not about panic or the government trying to scare us, the hospitals are chock full of people who underestimated their ability to get this virus.

The studies are not complete yet, but it appears people who have had the seasonal flu vaccine are more succeptable to swine flu. Here in Canada they are giving swine flu in Oct and seasonal flu vaccin in late Nov early Dec because of it. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/09/23/flu-shots-h1n1-seasonal.html http://www.naturalnews.com/027102_vaccines_H1N1_flu_shot.html
I am not a fan of the new vaccine, if it is my time to go then so be it.
Too much junk already in my system.
