I had a cell phone, but I stopped using it. Every time it rang or buzzed or vibrated, it irritated me, and spiked my adrenaline especially while I was driving. Now I listen to messages on my home phone - I don’t answer that either. I don’t like appliances making demands on me.
Cell phones are one of the most convenient, abused, overused, rude inventions to come down the pike in my lifetime. I carry one for emergencies. In my former profession (journalism) I was on the road a lot and often in the evening, but I would not have it now that I’m retired except it makes my husband happy. Problem is…I often forget to charge it or turn it on.
Cell phones are one of the handiest gadgets around, but people overuse them to the point that it makes them look like idiots. And, like most inventions, cell phones have made rude people ruder, lazy people lazier, and inconsiderate people even more inconsiderate. I wish people who used them while driving would get them confiscated immediately, and I wish people who use them while shopping or eating in restaurants could understand how immeasurably stupid and rude they are. But then, if they knew that already, they wouldn’t talk on the phone in public, now would they… .
I text. I talk. But I do it where others won’t be disturbed by it. And in schools, parents who allow their children to bring cell phones to class are MORONS. I can see having a cell phone in a pocket or backpack or purse, but kids won’t leave it there; they have to get it out and use it in front of their peers. Much like their parents, who talk on the phone so much they have to get a little ear bud to free up their hands. Oh, well, I guess it’s like being at work for most of them: “Do you want fries with that?”
I use a blackberry so I type much more than I talk. I absolutely abhor people who walk around everywhere talking on their phones. What on earth can they be talking about and who is on the other end listening??
Since I am not a child who has a phone glued to his/her ear and texting to run their parents’ bill up, and only use one occasionally as a convenience - as pay phones have gone the way of the dodo - I don’t think I will be much more affected by that radiation than from those mighty powerlines throughout the landscape…
