Those gorillas…I don’t know, but score one for them! Heard about chimps making weapons too, wasn’t in a zoo, but I think they were being studied and they were throwing them at the people who drew close enough. All right, we had better go to bed! See you later—hope I don’t have gorilla-poop dreams. ;)

Now, I am nowhere near as up on animals as Joan, but what do you think about Wow having an animal stories thread? Everyone always talks about their dogs in the profile pictures, so it wouldn’t always have to be an exotic animal issue, but I think the exotic animals would also garner a lot of interest, as they are truly fascinating. Sort of like a weekly national Geographic…? I nominate Joan, I know she’s busy, but she could supply at least a year of animal tales. Really, what do you think?

I think, Merrell, that we are deep into the “small world” category. I have ALL of Gerald Durrell’s book … and I believe he was probably responsible for my fascination with animals. The man was one of a kind, wrote so well that I felt I was living his world with him, and when he came to Chicago’s Field Museum, I was in the audience but never made personal contact — which is so unlike me as I go to extremes when it pertains to my interests. I wish I had known you then as I am perfectly willing to crash parties in my quest!!! I too investigated getting to Jersey as I had followed every brick in the building of his zoo, but I couldn’t work it the one wonderful time I was in England. (My specialty is remote places so I have to make choices). Are you trying to make me pretty darn envious? You spent an entire evening talking to him — well, how good is THAT?? The man didn’t suffer fools gladly so you must be a very impressive and mesmerizing person. I am a bit embarrassed to ask - but know that I cannot spend my entire life on WOW (though some nights I think I do) - but had you told that you are an artist before and I missed it? And you draw animals — how good is THAT? Blue Lizard will love that!!! Do you have a web site, a book, something? so I can see that lounging kangaroos and more?? I KNOW kangaroos personally. Was it a full size kanga or a wallaroo or a wallaby - but no matter, I love them all and I have stories about my encounters in the wilds of the Top End with them at night . . for another time. Merrell, I have read your fascinating life story with the intriguing ending which I will look up later — and I will respond to that, if you don’t mind, when I am a little wider awake. . as I think we may have a book in store as you write so well!!!!! So - later - but I am so glad I asked!! Joan

My internet didn’t give me good picture quality, but from what I could see it looked absolutely amazing! I clicked on one of the multi-colored rat suits, called Samurat, lovely, and it said it was made with brass and copper. Forgive my ignorance, but I wonder how he got the vibrant colors. I’m also curious if they’re wearable—with those materials—perhaps? Joan, check the link out if you haven’t already. Thanks, Merrell! Reminds me of the Nutcracker…all the mice soldiers or something.

Well, if you thought you’d seem everything, this artist is so unbelievably creative and just plain wonderful. My husband is in Antarctica but I think I will send him this site to look at SOMETIME — as he will love it also! Thanks.

I’m a culture vulture and love all kinds of museums, exhibits, art shows and galleries large and small and seek out at least one a week. Also love the California Missions and beautiful gardens.

We had a great time at Baltimore Museum of Art. It is such a lovely musuem and we saw the exhibit Franz West, To Build a House You Start with the Roof: Work, 1972-2008 . We also went to MICA student exhibits and they had a fantastic exhibit that was so thought provoking. During this weekend we also went to Area 405 and checked out that gallery. Baltimore has such an emphasis on promoting the arts, you can just feel and see it everywhere. That is a city with so much potential. Then we also went to their new Sports Legends Museum close to where Babe Ruth was born. This little museum was so creatively done- it started with the railroad Camden Yards and the Civil War including the “gentelman’s waiting room” from the 1800’s, Lincoln coming through there for his inaugeration you then enter the museum through an old rail car and look through the windows at passing scenery from that day to go back in time to the sports through the ages to see Baltimore Legends all the way up to Phelps.
