Is Obama's hope for global denuclearization realistic?

How I wish that President Obama’s push for a nuclear-free future was an attainable goal!!  Yet, the rising powers in The Middle East and Asia, and new shifts in the power structure in Eastern Europe will prevent this from happening in the near future.

Yet, I applaud President Obama for his efforts to pursue the issue of global denuclearization, and for seeking talks to bring about ‘change’ in how world powers examine this import issue.

No, it’s not realistic. But that’s almost beside the point. It’s in the striving to move the Doomsday Clock away from midnight mark that matters. Last I checked, it was 7 minutes away from Armageddon.

A lot of us who are into the biblical End Times prophecies see it all coming down in the not-too-distant future. Ironically, ancient Mayan Prophecy targets December 21, 2012, as the apocalyptic date, and Nostradamus projected around 2012 being doomsday, as well.

(Maybe that means the Detroit Lions will win their first Super Bowl!)

Good Morning, James. For those of us who are not into the biblical End Times prophecies, the striving is profoundly important. Whenever I hear about the "End Times", I cringe because I want to see my children grow old and have children of their own, etc. In my opinion, if we believe in these "end times" things, why would we want to keep on living now? At least working towards denuclearization is better than not. The Detroit Lions can win their first Super Bowl without these prophecies, don’t you think? I will even pull for them, if that will help! :)

Remember when 2000 rolled around.  There were people stocking up on water and canned goods for days in advance.  I still don’t understand how that would be of any comfort if the world was coming to a fiery end.

James, when the clock struck midnight in 2000, I was down on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.  My friends and I decided we would met The Maker in the best party city in the country.  Also, the city with the best shrimp po-boys!

And I actually do stock water and canned goods this time of the year.  It’s best to be hurricane ready and tis the season. Again. Sigh.

Well, Mac, why would a heavenly paradise preclude you from seeing your kids grow up?

As for the Lions, they do have a new coach (Jim Schwartz) this year, and had some good trades and player acquisitions in the off-season.

James, you’re such a sweet guy. You’re assuming all of us would qualify to go to some heavenly paradise. My kids are already grown up, I just want them to keep growing. I just have a different idea on which plane I’d like to see them growing and at least I’m sure of this plane because I had them on this plane… I know this plane…

And by the same token, how are you going to see the Lions win in a heavenly paradise? There will be no football anywhere else but down here… you know that’s true. Not once is football mentioned in the Bible! Neither are the Detroit Lions. Now, there ARE lions mentioned, but not from Detroit! You better want to stay around here to see it. I’d better not hear you trying to get away!

Mac, my family’s frightened that I will die next week. I go in for the same ear surgery that caused me to flatline in the operating room for 4-1/2 minutes last year. A battery of tests at U of M and elsewhere never did reveal what caused it. But they’ll have an emergency plan of action this time around, supposedly.

I really appreciate that, Patty. U of M recommended I not try this surgery again, but I’m going to, anyway.

I think the Lions will be mediocre this year, which would be a major improvement from their 0-16 record last year. That was the worst in NFL history. Tampa Bay went 0-14 in its inaugural season of 1976. I have high hopes under the new head coach, Jim Schwartz. He was a defensive coach under head coach Jeff Fisher with the Tennessee Titans for years. As you know, Tennessee’s been a high-quality franchise. Unfortunately, their former great quarterback, Steve McNair, who retired a year ago, was murdered the other day.
