Blythe and Gwyneth, Goldie and Kate: 15 Uncanny Mother-Daughter Look-Alikes (Photos)

Photo Essay

With mothers staying lovely for decades longer than ever before, there’s a delightful new phenomenon to celebrate: mothers and daughters whose strong family resemblance is radiantly apparent in real life, and not just seen by comparing old and new snapshots. To illustrate our point, we’ve collected pictures of famous contemporary mother-daughter double-take duos such as Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow, Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.

Do you have an uncanny resemblance to your mother or daughter? E-mail your family photos to submit@wowowow.com. If it causes us to do a double take, we’ll feature it in an upcoming photo essay.

And they say there’s no such thing as reincarnation. Ha!

Every time I see a picture of me I comment “They have taken my mother’s picture”. I take it as an extreme compliment when people tell me I look like her although I laugh and ask if they mean I look like her now (she is 24 years older) or when she was my age. If the genes carry through my future looks good.

My sister looks like a clone of my mother, but at times I look in the mirror and just for a moment I see myself in her looking back. There have been a few times since she left this world, I have been with my sister and just taking a quick glance without thinking, you would sware mom was standing there, definitely a close mirror image. Blessings, Linda

I used to look like my dad, but as I get older I see my mother’s face on mine. She passed 18 years ago.

I’m trying to remember some other mother-daughter actors. As she gets older, Mia Farrow looks more like her mom, Maureen O’Sullivan. And, even though she weighs ever so much more than her mother, I can see some of Debbie Reynolds in Carrie Fisher’s expressions. Who are some more mother/daughter actors?

You know, I recently saw Carrie Fisher on the Craig Ferguson show and I didn’t even recognize her.

Yeah, DeB, she gained some weight. My sister saw her in her one woman show a month or so ago based on her book. I think in addition to being an alcholic, she said she’s bi-polar.

Yes that’s what she said on Ferguson. I kept looking at her face for some trace of what she used to look like. She definitely put on a lot of weight, and then I think her hair was very different, and of course she has aged a bit. I was just wondering if she had had any work done to make her face change so much. However, looking at the photo in here of her with her mother, I can see how she’s looking like her mom now since her face has rounded out so much.

My mother was a lovely irish lady but I resemble my italian father… however under the skin I am exactly like her. I enjoyed those pictures, but boy, WHY do women have plastic surgery ??? Priscilla Presley and Joan Rivers look terrible !

EKA - I agree that Priscilla Presley and Joan Rivers look awful. How sad that the focus on youth and no wrinkles leads some people to think this is attractive in any way. I was ticking along in the slide show thinking what nice mother/daughter photos until I got to the Lohans. The first thought with that picture was “how sad that they both dress like tramps.”

Absolutely agree regarding Joan Rivers and Priscilla Presley. How sad that they have become caricatures of themselves by seeking eternal youth through plastic surgery. They just look scary and pathetic to me. I much prefer the age appropriate beauty that is Dame Judy Dench or the exquisite Helen Mirren! In this photo collection, we see the extremes. One one hand is the class and elegance and true beauty of Blythe Danner and daughter Gwyneth Paltrow. On the other, the Lohans. Shaking my head over the Lohans.

I have always adorned Blythe Danner–––bowled over by her performance in “The Great Santini”.

Me too. Class all the way as is her daughter.

Some, if not all, of these photos are old. Carrie Fisher, unfortunately, has ballooned out to such an extent I didn’t even recognize her on some video a few months ago. Joan Rivers on this photo actually looks good compared to what she looks like now which is grotesque. And boy, oh, boy do I admire Kate Hudson for keeping her small bosom unlike her mother who has implants. My favorite is Meryl Streep and her lovely daughter Mamie––you can just see the goodness in those faces––beautiful!

Buh- Bye
Have always loved Blythe Danner, and recently I’ve been watching the PBS food show with Gwyneth and have found her equally engaging. She is simply 100% herself and just delightful to watch… along with Mario Batali, Mark Bittman and Claudia Bassols. If any Wowers have missed this series take a peak at the link below. http://bitten.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/16/batali-paltrow-bassols-and-bi…
