Lorraine,
Midnight showing - I love it. Go!
I am also going to see it - this weekend. Can’t wait to see Meryl Streep.
I was fortunate to see the stage version in Los Angeles. The music is great. It’s not Prince, but it was lots of fun.
When the song, Dancing Queen came on, the audience stood up and started clapping and swaying, and basically just went nuts.
You’d think we were at a rock concert. I went with my mom, and she had a blast.
Have fun.
N P funny u should mention “Dancing Queen”. Do you know the story behind it?
First time we got to hear it, here in Sweden, was on June 18th, 1976 - the day before our King Carl Gustaf got married to, then, Miss Silvia Sommerlath.
A huge, televised, show was put on in their honor and Björn & Benny wrote that song for them. ABBA performed it on stage and it was a huge hit! As was the show for that matter! I can’t remember all of it, it’s been a while, but the things I do remember still makes me smile!
You know… it wasn’t… well, kosher (so to speak) to like ABBA at the hight of their popularity, and yet so many could sing along in their songs. Werd isn’t it?!
If you want a great selection of ABBA-songs, try to get their “ABBA Gold” and “More ABBA gold” CD’s.
Björn Ulvaues and Benny Andersson are geniuses when it comes to writing music.
Ever heard “Chess” (did it together with Tim Rice) - some really really great songs in it.
Then there was “Kristina från Duvemåla” (About people who emigrates from Sweden to the US (at the time-peroid only referred to as America). I have no idea if it’s been translated into English or not.
In recent interviews, Björn said he and Benny might do something more.. I hope they will!
There haven’t been many movies lately that I have had any interest in seeing except “Charlie Wilson’s War” , which I highly recommend. A great script! I wish movie people would spend a little more money and thought on the writing. Anyway I am thinking about seeing Mama Mia. I need to check out the reveiws and if it isn’t a ‘very good’ I will put it in the “wait for the DVD” category.
Remember a couple of weeks ago we were talking about how beautiful white hair is. Louise Petre is lovely with it.
Thank you, as usual, from a devoted picture looker atter.
ahhhhhhhh Meryl Streep. Probably the best actress who ever lived. She not only can make a person believe her role is the real thing, her smile seems to say she is a down to earth person.
Hubby and I saw the show in Las Vegas two years ago. Without hesitation we both agree that this is one of the top feel-good shows we’ve ever seen thanks to ABBA’s music. We will definitely see the movie because with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, we know it will be over-the-top amazing!!
I just saw the movie today and it is a complete antidepressant. Meryl Streep is wonderful, as usual, and the rest of the cast is a delight. I always love to see Christine Baranski too.
Saw Meryl Streep on The View today and she was great. Can’t wait for the DVD as I don’t go to theaters anymore. They showed a clip of Meryl singing and I was blown away. Didn’t know she had a voice too!
I loved, loved, loved this movie! The cast was great and you leave the theater feeling so great. Some people liked to break out into song during the movie which was kind of weird…and annoying.
Meryl, Rita Wilson, Kelly Shaye Smith, and some of the other women are not so thin that they look sick. I love it that women are beginning to look more like women who enjoy a good meal. I hope a new trend is starting. I am so looking forward to seeing the movie. Meryl is always a delight.
I’ve just walked in the door from seeing Mama Mia at my local movie house where everyone in the audience stood up and cheered at the end of the film! Meryl Streep is a wonder! And I know why Greeks live so long - it’s all those stairs! This beautiful, enchanting, funny, funny film with its cast of young and not-so-young extraordinarily talented actors had me singing and dancing all the way home. Am I going to buy the DVD? Of course! And I’m going to watch it a hundred times? You’d better believe it! This winner takes it all!
