Remembering Benazir Bhutto ... One Year Later (Photos)
Benazir Bhutto made history on December 2, 1988, when she became Pakistan’s first female prime minister, an office once held by her father.
Her landmark tenure came to an abrupt end, however, after political opponents accused her of corruption. Ever determined, Bhutto ran for reelection in 1993 and won, but was again routed from office after similar accusations. She soon went into self-imposed exile.
Then, last year, after eight years away, Bhutto made the trek back to Pakistan and vowed to win the presidency. She may have won, too, had Bhutto not been murdered December 27, 2007.
Now, on the first anniversary of Bhutto’s assassination, we’re taking a look back at some of this wonderful woman’s most memorable moments.
