The wowOwow Best-Dressed List: Clarkson, Cruz and Sarah Jessica Prove That Short Can Work in Winter

Photo Essay

As the economic news gets darker, those who still can afford it are saying no to the quicksand of gloom by keeping up appearances. In more cases than not, even if the occasion would allow for a long dress, such as the annual gala for The New York City Ballet, the best-dressed opted to wear short lengths. Less is more? Yes, true, but also with red-carpet starlet overload approaching as we enter cinema and television awards season, where long is uniform, short looks modern and independent. Here, proof that pretty is better than punk, Sarah Jessica Parker takes time to smell the roses at the ballet.

Chanel? Might be iconic, but perhaps not exactly “classic” anymore. At least to these old eyes, PC looks as if she has her grandma’s clothes on.

… with black tights! I think that suit was lovely, but it didn’t seem like something PC would wear. You know what I mean?

Absolutely. Couldn’t see Anna Magnani in that suit either. Maybe it’s an issue of personality, rather than the suit actually being passé?

Maybe short works but Alicia Keys looks wonderful.

I agree, Sandbee. But I did like Penelope Cruz’s suit, and the little pink number at the end. Did you see what I saw? The dreaded “saddlebags” on Sarah Jessica Parker! I never thought I’d see such a thing. Maybe the dress was a size too small. (Meeeoww!)

Do believe you are right Ms. Dee, maybe she should have worn it not quite so tight : )

Well, the dress was to die for, especially with those shoes! And I’m sure she felt delicious with the gorgeous way it rode on her shoulders. A little more flow around the hips and thighs and she would’ve been just stunning. Maybe she just had a twist in her spanx. (I’m feeling dreadfully catty…) She’ll be off to the gym if she gets a look at this picture, though. That’s my bet..

Really liked most of the clothes, not to sure about the Marni prints. Had BB take a look at them and he said as a really cool cat he gave us his ok to be as “catty” as we like.

I am with Sandbee the prints in the Marni collection may be the “thing” in Miami , they did not do it for me.

Well, they’re all lovely, I guess, but I’d love to see a feature on Wow of the week’s Best Spoken (in terms of public figures, not bloggers). Best statements of the week. Multimedia.

The one thing being best dressed implies is that the clothes fit impeccably, are worn with panache, and are appropriate. Mostly these were tacky
