Christie Brinkley, Martha Stewart, Helen Mirren Out on the Town at the Opera (photos)

Photo Essay

One of New York City’s first big gala evenings of the fall season is the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera. Last night Robin Platzer, wowOwow’s eye on the evening, was out on the town … taking pictures of the red-carpet arrivals at Lincoln Center. For the first time, the opening night was simulcast to 500 screens in theaters worldwide, inspiring far-flung opening night parties all around the globe.

Parker Posey who can be so adorable and really messed up in this pix. But look at her here. Fantastic dress/hair, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5azW5Gz5lQ

I wish these pics had captions. I’m not sure if it’s Parker Poosey, but that pocketbook looks like a dead rabbit to me.

I saw it live at the movie theatre. Listen you all, if you have a theatre in your town to watch MetLive! HD, you must go. It was fabulous and everyone there almost was black tie. On all the tiers. Then, they would cut away to Times Square where Mayor Bloomberg had cut it off and it was broadcasting live for the city. Thousands were there watching, and Debra Voight looking wonderful(she’s lost about 150 # since her by-pass surgery), was interviewing. And, I have never seen any clothes like the outfits that were designed for Renee Fleming as she performed whole acts from 3 operas….LaTraviota, Manon Lescaut, and Capriccio(R. Strauss’ last opera). She was amazing. I guess because my late husband was an opera and musical theatre singer and an actor, I know how much athletic prowess a singer must have to get through one act, let alone three different ones. Last night was one of the best I have had in ages. Pure bliss, and I ran into lots of opera fans in our community. And, I took myself. Didn’t worry about not having a date or something. Vogue magazine is running pictures of Renee Fleming modeling those gowns. Oh, and her jewels were the real mccoy, loaned out by VanCleef & Arpels, Bulgari, among others.

I forgot to say they interviewed Martha Stewart during one of the intermissions. She looked great and showed how she makes her fave champagne cocktail with lemon zest. BTW, how tall is Mayor Bloomberg? He was a good 4-6 inches shorter than the woman who interviewed him.

I worked for Mike Bloomberg in the 80’s on Wall Street. He is quite short- perhaps 5’7”-8”. I am new to this site- love the political banter- at least you all have an opinion!

Love the color and material of Martha’s dress and her hair and makeup, just thought the dress was too shapeless. But that’s def my fave color for night with blond hair, I had a great dinner suit in that color and just loved it. Christine Baranski also looked great.
