And how somehow, suddenly, women are showing up in boardrooms and on red carpets with the most unexpectedly fierce fashion accessory of all: the Power-Gray head of hair” Anyone know the names of these companies that love to have grey-haired women in their boardrooms? Please post a list. Could be empowering at a time when older folks are not exactly being recruited by corporate America. Why O Why do I feel this piece could have been written by my 17 year old grandson—trying hard to be relevant to Ol’ Granny and thinking that everyone older with light hair is gray.

Well, I must say that I too have gone gray..I had my hair streaked beige for years anyway, and it just sort of did it on its own..but the grey is like not steely colour more on the Helen Mirren line..I think every winter of putting colour in, but my hairdresser and husband think it is a great colour and I dont mind in the summer when I have a brown face..but in the winter …well. My husband tells me that one should grow old gracefully.. I wonder sometimes, I must be the only 66 year old with grey hair in my city surrounded by all older women with all sorts of dyed hues!! Perhaps I am just lazy thinking about having to go to the hairdresser every few months to top up the colour..so, I am going with the growing old naturally!

Embraced white a long time ago. There seems to be a shine enhancer (seen on Wesley Clark’s head), looks GREAT! Must get it. Bleach the bangs once a year.

No gray for this gal! I think Jamie Lee looks like steely and masculine… Didn’t she star in Blue Steel?

Looks steely… that’s funny. I’ve had the - I don’t want to say, misfortune - so I’ll say the unusual experience of either preceding Ms. Curtis in the one room restroom of Christina’s in Ketchum, or following in after her, more then a half a dozen times throughout the last dozen or so years. I’m sure it’s no reflection on her grey hair, but each one of those times she has not been particularly pleasant in nature, either waiting or passing by. Steely is a good word. I don’t know Ms. Curtis, I’ve never said a peep to her, I have no reason to. I’ve been told she’s written wonderful children’s books, I’m sure she’s quite lovely. She appears to be, when on Oprah.

I had suggested this as a topic awhile ago and am glad to see it discussed. I am disappointed to see blonds classified as grays though. The older I get, the blonder I am getting in order to cover the gray. I am not quite brave enough at the age of 55 to go gray yet, but I hope that by the age of 60, if not before, I will stop coloring my hair. The pressure to cover our gray is just another example of sexism in our society. It doesn’t mean we are lazy or not taking care of ourselves if we don’t hide our grays, it just means we are accepting a normal part of “growing up.”

Some of us are just naturally gray without bottle help!

katywon LA..
These women are all beautiful. Even if you are not gorgeous most women look striking with gray or white hair in their 50’s and up. Besides who wants to keep putting chemicals into your hair and these being adsorbed into your body. We don’t know enough about what adding stuff that smells and burns your scalp will cause you in health problems along the line. Jamie Curtis looks outstandingly beautiful and she is a beautiful person. Take this coming from a woman who could never claim beauty but always felt good about herself. (me).

Katywon LA…….You are soooooo Wrong! Just the fact you are a woman makes you extrodinarly “BEAUTIFUL”. Besides anyone who can hold a completely adorable Kuala in their arms, has to be wonderful.

I started to go gray at age 28, am now almost 70. Only colored my hair once in all that time, husband hated it so I let my natural color be what it wanted to be. I never regreted it. My daughters color their hair, I have no problem with that, it’s their money & time. I think whatever makes a woman feel good about herself is what she should do………I love my white hair, it sets me apart from others my age who still do the color thing (and look it).

Emmy Lou Harris - to sound like that …..and then to look like that, it’s just criminal!

Emmy Lou Harris takes my breath away! Helen Mirren does as well, but she’s more blonde. I have only recently flirted with the idea of going natural. My skin is ghostly white, green eyes, and I keep my naturally curly hair reddish in colour. Would love to see what is underneath, but hate the idea of going through the pain of growing it out. Right now I’m having enough issues finding someone to cut curly hair, much less help me gracefully pass through the colour change. I know! How about having our own version of a coming out party here? Could go all the way from at home, do-it-yourself, to a wowOwow sponsored event as we unleash our natural, age appropriate, self confident beauty. Just think of it as a makeover of the natural kind.

I have greying hair-it looks fabulous! It’s silvery mixed with medium brown. I keep it trimmed and a chin length, stacked cut-I love it! I’m not getting on that hair coloring roller coaster again-if you keep your vital areas (like your rear-end) in shape-the hair just tops it off. Instead of spending time and $$$ at the hairdressers-take a power walk.
