Indeed an equal opportunity website :) Thanks. I just want to pipe in with one more suggestion, while Kiva is great please also consider Oxfam America Unwrapped, speaking as a (struggling) business owner whose obnoxious clients are used to receiving disgustingly indulgent Christmas presents from their vendors I have decided that the very rare few who have made it on to our list this year are going to get a camel or a cow or 100 trees planted in their names :) http://www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/home.php
Ladies of WowOwow
Great choices. I think I will put the Tiffany Naughty/Nice on my Christmas list, it is easier for my husband that way. He is always worried what he should get me. Also great to be able to shop Jones of New York right from the sight. I will pass the word among my friends. The other item I want from hubby is on the other list - the book on Marie Antoinette’s Gardens. Although I told my husband, after 15 years of garden books for christmas, that I didn’t want anymore, he can now go back to buying them, he will be vindicated. LOL
I have a suggestion for luxury socks… Smartwool Socks! These are ultra comfortable, durable and look great. You can buy a pair for about $16.00 and a 3pk for about $49.00.
btw… wowOwow… thanks for the more sane gift thread!
DeBúrca obj—I agree with you. I own some of those socks. They are comfy and wear a long time. Also, they come in dress socks so I can wear them to work. Win, win.
That little ADOPT ME puppy is super cute. Of course, if you get one in California and Mr. Schwarzenegger has his way, you’ll be paying a PET TAX!!
When the pet goes to work, then he should be able to charge it tax. It costs enough to keep a pet healthy and happy. Tax Arnold more for his muscles. ;-}
For music lovers…(sorry, can’t help myself)… check out http://www.classicalgenius.com
Gifts under $15.00.
(I don’t make a dime off of this, just highly recommending…)
Thanks, wOw, for this suggestion list - a mite bit more in our price ranges. How about a donation to YouthAids, the organization for which Ashley Judd is the ambassador? And Make-A-Wish? And so many more charities that need our support, especially now.
I love the Adopt-a-Pet suggestion, too, though puppies and kitties grow up to be dogs and cats and are family members who must be cared for, so it’s important to decide who will take responsibility before adopting. I really like Netflix - have given it to family members for years now.
I have a suggestion for those folks who never want to stop learning—www.TEACH12.com. The Great Courses has fantastic classes on high school and college levels in every area you can imagine. I hope my boyfriend doesn’t read this because I bought him dvd courses on Chaos Theory and Linguistics.
They also have courses on audio cds and ones you can download. This is a website that ALWAYS has sales—there is one right now.
You can watch them on your computer and put them on your ipod for transportability. Some folks I know come together and exchange their classes when they are done with them. Go to the website and look around—you might see something you like.
I am not in any way related to the folks who run the website and will not profit by mentioning these fine products—I just really believe in continuing to learn my entire life. That’s why I came to wOw, after all.
Dear wOw—there is something wrong, at least on my computer. Everything is coming out in boldface. Where’s our fixer?
Hi, Ladies…your trusty editor here…thanks for your kind remarks on this list…and I just wanted you to know that we were working feverishly on BOTH lists, and the “Fashionista” story that we launched yesterday was simply finished first. As Joni said, we have literally hundreds of thousands of readers (thankfully, the site is growing like mad, and remember, not everyone comments like you ladies so graciously do) of all stripes, and our job is to balance the interests of everyone.
Personally, I’m all for the puppy, but husband will divorce me if one more dog comes in the front door! (Although that Anya Hindmarch bag is calling me to get in the car and drive over to the local Tar-jay this weekend.) Deborah
oh man a netflix gift certificate! that’s such a good idea! i’d never thought of that before. I have a bunch of family members that would love it…
For at least the last three years i’ve been trying to convince my family that instead of giving me gifts I want them to donate money… so i’ll send them the idea of the gift certificate on here and see if it works.. lol.
Finally!!!
I do love the Christmas ornament!!!! I always include a “stocking gift” with my presents.
And please think about Food Banks this year too. That’s why I love City Meals on Wheels. They not only feed, they deliver.
And, btw, that bag is calling out to me too.
Thanks Wow. Keep the suggestions coming. The lower the price the better.
And don’t forget the kids….If you find a site that discounts, that would be great too. I have to get a Dora the Explorer Globe, but the globes for older children run $100 or more—so any discount sites you can find will be great.
This year I am trying not to go over the $50 range.
Dear Wow Staff,
I just discovered that items sold at Target are also available on Amazon.com which is good because some of their products qualifies for free shipping. The ornament and bag are there.
Netflix usually offers subscribers a free month when they get someone a gift subscription—so that’s another savings.
Beautiful pix of Marilyn Monroe I’ve never seen before.
