Here we go again.
wOw using misogynistic tactics to try to put down a woman candidate.
Racism has its pejorative terminology - Uncle Tom. Is there an expression for women who curry favor with the boys club or any other group using hate and nonsense to weaken another woman?
Consider for a moment how Hillary Clinton’s support grew as the hateful and unreasonable attacks against her mounted. I predict that as Governor Palin receives the same treatment support for her ticket will grow and the unwitting left will have done the dirty work for collusive right.
Dear E,
Did you look at the photos? Me-thinks you simply were “caught” by a catchy title and did not look further. geez, lighten up.
As a 60’s teenager I wore dresses to school since pants were not allowed. I thought I was rebelling after school by wearing jeans.
In our world, what we wear does reflect our society, whether we like it or not.
Consider burka’s (sp?) and pant suits, power suits, dresses……ties vs. cardigan on Pres. Carter—-remember that?
Keep up the good articles Wowowow.
Yes Dorothy I did look at the photos before I made a comment.
I was not “caught up” in anything and have a right to comment. The collection of unflattering photos of Palin has nothing to do with “reflecting society” and everything to do with trying to tear down Governor Palin. It is a limp and cheap shot and I expect more from the esteemed gathering of accomplished women in charge of wOw.
The point of my commentary is that using misogyny in the campaign against Governor Palin will likely have the unintended effect of garnering support for her. Other than being a toady sycophant what is your point?
E,
Wowowow seems to welcome views. I am not trying to flatter you or anyone else.(Not a toady or a sycophant) I am just giving my own thoughts here.
This site certainly does not hate women as you suggest. with the term misogyny.
Comments can be registered in opposition to her views; as well as in opposition to any public servant or someone running for public office. There will no doubt be questions concerning her family values, her views on education, her views on the economy, and her views on foreign affairs. This is appropriate. The first decision—that of picking a VP, demonstrates the Pres. candidates views. This would coincide with potential Supreme Court candidates if elected. Questions to Sem Obama and Sen Biden and Sen McCain will similarly be asked.
These questions are not part of our deliberation in our democracy and not to be taken as personal attacks.
Totally agree E about the misogyny backfiring. It may have worked in the primary against Hillary (up until the end, when the winds suddenly shifted) but the GOP learns lessons fast and obviously has some very busy think tanks hard at work devising strategies on how to win this thing. What’s your bet they captured the Special Needs vote too? While Dems and the media were criticizing Palin for not being a stay-at-home-mom for her Downs Syndrome baby, the GOP turned it into advocacy at the executive level for special needs people. So smart, so smart.
Dems… oh boy… don’t know what to say about my poor old party. Trying to win with all this below-the-belt stuff.
Exactly my thoughts My Alias. Policy and ideology aside, Sarah Palin’s speech on Wednesday night was a grand slam for her. It was her coming out as a force to be reckoned with, not only as a frontrunner of the “new wave” of GOP players, but as a powerful woman who has the potential to impact our nation as a whole. I think that this election is Obama/Biden’s to lose. The Democrats seem to always be three steps behind the GOP. They screw the pooch so often with sophomoric and uncoordinated tactics that I find it difficult to want to be associated with them (or their candidate) even though that party best reflects my ideology. Many people, not only Hillarybots or bigots or other fence-riders, who would not otherwise be comfortable voting for McCain, can easily identify with the very likable Sarah Palin for several reasons and are ripe to be won over by her if the Dems and their media lapdogs play their hand badly. Women who are/have been out there in the trenches are frustrated and want to be done with the boys club bs that we continue to have to deal with. It is truly disappointing to realize that the Dems (and many women) can not grasp this and run with it. It is just as disappointing to see wOw run cheap attacks on any woman but I suppose it is reflective of our society today. The good news is that there is so much potential for improvement.
Yeah; what’s wrong with pink? I like it.
Look, this is Alaska. It is an incredibly different place than New York. Her constituents aren’t likely to scrutinize what she’s wearing because they don’t care. Heaven’s to Betsy! A pink tunic with brown pants! A black suit with red sandals!
Though I don’t wear the pink styled outfit in the first photo, I do wear pink in a more sophisticated look. The average middle america does dress like this though. Something wrong here? No.
I’m sure she’ll be properly outfitted in “Dress for Sucess” clothing before long.
But that’s really irrelevant. What’s important are her views and positions, which I find totally appalling. I hope that voters will see beyond her new Armani outfits and vote against the person within them.
Abuse is both personal and cultural. That is, you can have personalities that will tend toward abusiveness in any culture, but you can also have cultures that condone or glorify abusiveness.
Joan, I completely agree. The public's so-called "right to know" does not extend to possibly getting people killed. While we do have freedom of the press, words have consequences, a
I think this is a very premature opinion on Ms Hakakian's part. The Iranian mullahs are still very much in control and have the Revolutionary Guards under their thumbs.
