What about Bacall or Streisand or MacLaine or Liza?
Oh, well, I guess we can’t name them all but I sure did grow up with idea of the “Grand Dame”. I wanna’ be a Grand Dame even if it is on a way way way smaller scale. :)
I happen to think that you, Liz, are also a Grand Dame!
I have always enjoyed Cher but I was very disappointed to see the plastic surgery. I felt she was unique and beautiful and then she showed up with plumped up lips, etc. So sad that women (and men) cannot age naturally. Not sure who decided that these big pouffy lips and non-moving botoxed upper faces are attractive.
Oh, Liz! How could you possibly leave out that frisky, feisty, adorable Dame Helen Mirren…especially frolicking in the ocean in her red bikini….with her 63rd birthday
screeching around the corner on Saturday? We of the Helen Mirren Appreciation Society are just over the top about this latest exploit! She is the real deal!!
And one more thing, Diva Liz. I believe she created a paradigm shift, and that we older girls ought to be simply thrilled to hear and read of people of all ages discussing the beauty of us foxy ladies. She has given us permission to wear what we please,
run and jump and shout, and have a ball. I read something today on DailyThoughts.com which is very appropriate for this subject : “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” unknown
We focus so much on age when the most beautiful women are well over 50 in Europe especially. I agree about Helen Mirren, but why have you left off the fantastic Fanny Ardant who at 59 is probably one of the most elegant and sexy women anywhere, and Catherine Deneuve. Oh my! Now these are the women we should be cherishing. Cher is a great actress but I wish she would be the natural woman she has played in film instead of the manufactured person she has become.
It was great taking a trip down memory lane seeing some beautiful ladies. Hope we think the same in 20 years.
