Thanks, Mary. This is wowOwow at its best—life as seen through the eyes of a sophisticated, glamorous and very savvy and sensitive woman. Love the writing and the glorious pictures.

For those who cannot manage the Mediterranean (& it’s not cheap nowadays!) I recommend the Channel Islands area at the beginning of the Central Coast of California. Much less crowded & the same views of the sea!! I look at pix of the Rivieras of Europe, which I understand get crowded at the height of the season, and then see the magnificent Channel waters, and think - ah! Why bother go to Europe?

I liked the pics, but aren’t you forgetting a few countries in the Mediterranean? Like how ‘bout my beloved Greece? Or, for that matter, Italy!

In Provence from the coast go inland to a hilltop medieval fortress called Gordes—marvelous place —just don’t walk up that hill—it’s so steep—take a car. believe me you’ll need it.

BARCELONA: RESTAURANTS AND TABLES? NO WAY! About 10 years ago, I spent an entire summer studying Spanish at a local language school and boarded with a cranky widow whose languages were Catalan, French, & Spanish, while mine were English, English, and understanding French, but we managed to communicate. Every day after class I explored Barcelona on foot, a wonderful city f0r the visually gifted. The old and new city, the visitors, the children, flying over the city, the many steps everywhere. and Miro, Gaudi’s and other masters’ art and architecture throughout the city. One weekend, I photographed Catalans dancing outdoors, old and young. By the time my visit ended, I knew every street in that fabulous city. All one needs are curiosity, comfortable shoes, and a dictionary.
