Photo Essay

According to our rundown of The 15 Over-40 Female Fashion Leaders of 2008, it’s obvious what our views are when it comes to Michelle Obama’s style. She has been compared to some of the greatest fashion icons of all time and is being called the next Jackie O. But we think the greatest thing about Michelle’s style is it’s all her own. From the famous black and white dress she wore on “The View” to her many Maria Pinto creations, here are Michelle Obama’s Greatest Fashion Hits…so far!

Are you drugged? Compared to Jackie O??? She looks like she dresses from Chicos or Talbots. Her hair is a disaster. Her shoes look “comfy” — she has no style AT ALL. Stop sucking up to this woman. Or, do you have no fashion sense. Barbara walters is wearing the same ol’same ol’ and is about as fresh as MO. Jackie O, like Grace Kelly like Audrey Hepburn had a style that is not to be copied. Michelle Obama looks like a woman who needs to tone down the island colors and comb her hair.

Just because people have an opinion on Mrs. Obama’s fashion sense doesn’t mean they hate women of color! I think she has the right spirit and energy in her fashion choices, but she often choose strange shades (case in point: inaugural puke yellow suit with primary green shoes circa 1984?) I like the fact that she is bringing the idea of bright, optimistic colors to politics, but the shades she picks from the color families are ugly and they tend to clash the President’s suits and ties, and the cuts of her dresses don’t do her great figure justice. Her hair fine the way it is. She always looks pulled together without trying too hard. Also, a bit of a history note: the White House was not originally white, and it’s not called the “white” house for a racist reason. During the War of 1812 the British came to Washington D.C. and set the President’s house on fire…smoke covered the walls, and after the war Americans repainted the house with a cheap white paint (called whitewash, because it’s white) and that’s why they called it the “white” house, because it was painted white to hide the damage caused by the fire.

Nancy, if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. It’s not MO whose claiming she’s another Jackie O.Lord knows who came up with that absurdity. It’s to that absurdity people are responding. Not to her color. And it’s a cheap shot turning it into a racial issue. She was a simple working woman wife and mother for a lot of years. Not a fashion plate. She seems confortable with who she is. Publicists or whoever should stop trying to make her out to what she is not. It takes practice to develop fashion savvy. But who says she must be a fashion plate? Let’s hope for her to grow in the White House. But for goodness sake, not in fashion. In useful contributions to the nation.

Wow why the venom? I happen to love the confident, colorful and comfortable style of the Ivy League educated First Lady. This is fashion for the 21st Century. Get used to it. Her hair is fabulous as well. And, if I were you, I would watch what I say. A Black woman’s hair is not a subject you want to get into or be heard getting into anywhere near a Black woman. I don’t know what ethnicity you are; but, even other Black women know better than that. For the record, why would anyone copy previous First Ladies? If anything take inspiration and then make it your own. I am done. I refust to allow ignorant comments like yours to steal my joy today. Class is over!

First of all, I dress from Talbots, and I think she looks great.  Turquoise is my favorite color, and if I was in as good of shape as she is, I would definitely wear this.  And it’s not like I’m a well-dressed national model, oops, I am.  So shut up.

She looks so fabulous and definitely has the style and class of Jackie O. Such a beautiful woman. Curvaceous figure, thick and luxurious head of hair, beautiful skin and she has the perfect accessory on her arm…..Barack Obama! :-)

Michelle looks like a hip Jackie O, an off-the-rack, local designer chic Jackie O, a well educated professional Jackie O, a mother who actually changed diapers and drove to ballet lessons Jackie O, a hot Jackie O, a woman who grew up on Chicago’s Southside and made much of her humble beginnings Jackie O, an everywoman Jackie O, and a married to a loving husband Jackie O. She looks like THE First Lady for the New Millennium!

michelle looks fabulous in anything she wears, she has the classic style of jackie o,.her style is real not fake or made up just to be in the spot light and i think that alone says what a good job she is going to be doing by representing her husband as well as our country. its time that the american people stop hiding behind all that make up and expensive clothing, and be theirselves .if GOD blessed you with a special talent why hide it or cover it up with tons of make up and clothes that cost a fortune.thats whats wrong with the american people they are so worried about what a person is wearing or how they look, when in fact they should be worried about what kind of job her and her husband is going to do in the white house.focus on what really matters, our country, and the men and women over seas that need to be home with their families. also what should be address is the mess they show on television, every time you turn a station all you see is the stations promoting SEX,every thing is about SEX,which we all know its apart of life, but we need to address it when our time comes not before.

She’s not set out to be a fashionista her entire life, she’s had more serious work to do but she just keeps getting better and better. Did you see that elegant outfit at yesterday’s tribute concert? That has been my favorite yet and I can’t wait to see what she wears to the inaugural balls. If yesterday was a teaser I think we are all in for a treat (and JLH for a pleasant suprise I hope).

Michelle Obama dresses in a manner that is very good for her height. Does anyone know how tall she is? I love her sense of daring and her use of colors.

The First Lady is over 6 feet tall , in answer to your question. Anytime we get a new First Lady that is one of the things we say about her ; is her clothes. We are not in high school ladies let us rise above this foolishness. Why not do differently this time? Can anyone of try to imagine the pressure and the criiitism tthat these wonderful women get. I shutter to think if someone were to have an opinion on everything I wore, said , or did. Our First Ladies of the USA are far more couragious than I. Whether she wears off the rack or thrift store she is more than her clothes and we should find better things to spend our time on than that. Mrs. Obama is a bright intelligent First Lady and we should be nothing but glad to have her as we do. I like her bright use of color. Sissy
