From Audrey Hepburn to Frank Sinatra, the Vastly Unavailable Photos of Milton H. Greene

Photo Essay

Milton H. Greene was a photographer for Look, Life, Town & Country, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and many other publications throughout the 1950s and ’60s. He photographed many of the most glamorous personalities of those decades — including Audrey Hepburn, Andy Warhol, Judy Garland, Sophia Loren, Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman. In the book But That’s Another Story: A Photographic Retrospective of Milton H. Greene, 220 of Milton H. Greene’s photographs are reprinted in their original integrity. Many of these pictures have been unavailable since Greene’s death in 1985. PowerHouse Books, publisher of But That’s Another Story, has shared with wowOwow some of the most precious photographs from the book …

The text is written by Amy Greene, Milton’s widow. Married to Milton Greene for more than 36 years, Amy was a privileged witness to the most regarded legends of film, fashion, art and style. Here, Amy shares personal stories and poignant reflections alongside her husband’s famous work.

Milton Green did a fantastic job with his photos. Grace Kelly (in my opinion) was one of the most classically beautiful women in the world. I can still see her image from Alfred Hitchcock’s movie Rear Window. The manner in which she carried herself, spoke, glided through the room….I often try to emulate her but I am positive I fall short of her standards. She had a sense of style that is clean, crisp and unique, and that is what I strive for. Flawless.
