I voted for Medea Benjamin because she works every day for peace and justice and uses a huge amount of courage doing it. She is frequently leading a small group into the fray (followed often by police) and she confronts the powerful with humor and imagination. She combines leadership with keen knowledge of world issues and amazing courage. The others I know on the list are safer and are not taking such personal chances.

A problem with the Palin part “…make her a lightning rod for scorn on the left and rabid devotion on the right.” What do you mean by “left”? Palin’s criticism and ‘scorn’ is as much from conservatives (ie. George Will, David Brooks, etc. in the media, and many Republican and Independent voters who have said Palin is their reason for not voting for McCain) as it is from Liberals or whoever it is that is considered “left” these days.

All are terrific, with the exception of Palin who is a pathetic joke and does NOT belong on that list, she can’t tie any of those women’s shoe laces. She is a MORON. I like all the other women very much, all are achievers, all role models. Medea Benjarmin and Angela Jolie are my favorites which is silly to say because they are all outstanding women, excepting Palin.

Hillary in the Obama administration is as much a mandate as will tonight’s decisive CHANGE in America. The America I can love AGAIN. We the People insist on it. Just as we can accept a Joe the Vice President. Joe the Artist

Where is Maya Angelou? I can’t begin to understand a list that includes Sarah Palin and excludes her! She has inspired and changed the lives of every African-American who has heard her speak or read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, including all the rest of us. Ruth McKendree Treen, Chatham MA

The best women I’ve known are Mom’s. If you can love kid’s, you give our world a wonderful gift.

well it is tool late to vote for obama’s grandmother and mother, obama’ds mother gave birth to this man, who became our president and did not have an abortion because his father was black. obama’s mother gave birth to a biracial child before civil rights passed in 1965. this is the woman of the year obama’s mom. thank you

The list consists of amazing women of service…however I can’t agree with Sarah Palin being on the list. She may be a strong woman but I don’t see her stepping out to help anyone but herself. Other than Palin, it is hard to vote for only five from this list of incredibly bold and bighearted women.

Just because Gov. Sarah Palin has faith does not make her a racist religious nut. That is an atheist point of view. Our country was started be deeply religious people. Don’t they teach that in Elementary School any more? People of faith have as much of a right to their opinions as anyone else. Modern religious women love Pope Benedict XVI and his stand on protecting unborn babies in the womb. The liberal opinion isn’t any more holy than the conservative opinion. If women had any self-respect they’d not have sex until they were married. Having sex is not a rite of passage to the Big Boys’ or Big Girls’ Club. Liberal women, you’ve been duped!
