Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi met at his mother’s dance studio when they were teens, married in 1975. They have been dance partners and she is a well respected choreograhper. She has been his support system for years, and now they are enduring his battle with pancreatic cancer. By the way, I’ve started reading that the cancer has spread into the liver. He is amazing because he has been filming and doing his chemo.

It’s great to see such a diversity in people in this set of photos. In today’s world, too many older women are written off for a younger mate by powerful men. It was nice to see some older couples have what it takes to day together.

…………..and here we are, 47 years on Christmas Eve. I don’t think we’ll ever renew our vows; not our thing, but just in case, I’m tickling myself with the thought of having someone sing “Sunrise Sunset” from “Fiddler on the Roof” — the thought of these two oldsters going down the aisle to “here is the little boy I carried, there is the little girl at play………….” or vice versa, I never could remember which came first, just makes me laugh until the tears come :)

What would happen to the marriage and divorce rate if we saw these couples everyday on the newstands instead of celebrating infidelity and instant romance?

Kevin and Kyra are one of my favorite Hollywood couples to view. Both are such (or should I say seem, I don’t know them personally) like such real and genuine people. They seem like the type of people I would love to have dinner and drinks with and talk about life.

Well, actually not so much. Tomlin/Wagner anyone?

Interesting that at least two of those couples (Sting, Springsteen) met while at least one was married and their resulting relationship broke up those marriages…you just don’t ever know how things are going to turn out. I’ve always loved Kyra onscreen and am so excited she’s back at it again! And Kevin is just…our generation’s McDreamy!

Come on, what about Mike Nichols & Diane Sawyer (aka my favorite power couple)? Liz?

and what about the current couple in the white house……….their chemistry is palpable….i can only hope for that in my next life and be smarter than i was in this life about my choices………married and unhappy for 30 years……….what was i thinking………….i blew it…………i am not lonely at all but am sometimes whistful when i see couples that seem to have made it and i have to be honest and say that i wish i were one of them……….life goes on and there are other joys that sustain me………….friends, children, grandchildren, having my integrity back, and knowing that i DID IT on my own ! Brava to me……….i came out of the abyss……….scathed but stronger than ever……..to those of you who think you can’t……….”YES YOU CAN”…. happy valentine’s day to you singletons………love yourself !

It’s the luck of the draw…hurray for the ones who make it. Instead of the word “Love”, I’d use fulfillment. I don’t understand people married for 20, 30, 40 and are unhappy? What a waste of time. Why be married and unfullfill and feel alone. Women you deserve better! It’s sad but, a lot of women think they don’t…..Happy Valentine’s Day to me…..
