Ingrid Betancourt and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in the same top ten list? My dears, if nothing else, we show a capacity for great depth and incomprehensible celebrity worship. I guess I shouldn’t complain about that, should I, dahlings?

Variety is the spice of life and the mix cracked me up….including the delusional remark by Cherie Blair….and possibly the self-deluded one by Carla Bruni…although I hope hers becomes true as it’ll help world peace to keep Sarkozy calm and happy. And really do think Carla Bruni is a delightful woman.

Cheri Blair is comparing her husband to Churchill and I just read today that someone… could it be good old Condi Rice?… is comparing Bush to Churchill. Churchill must be spinning in his grave.

DeB- “Churchill must be spinning in his grave.” That’s for certain. Churchill admired effectiveness…he [like de Gaulle and Napoleon] studied and admired Joan of Arc for her strategy in changing the course of the 100 Year War in 4 days, and in her brilliance in presenting her case without counsel at her trial and while facing 100 learned men all railed against her. Churchill would have nothing but total contempt for those two self-serving oafs ‘Blair and Bush. Sounds like a pub name in Bristol.

It’s too bad about Blair, he had a lot more potential and I THINK better intentions than Bush. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why he attached himself to Bush and his war the way he did.

Blair got involved because 2 of the oil companies that got PSAs (production service agreements) for Iraq’s oil—& the PSAs were one of the 17 points Bush said must happen before the US would leave Iraq—were British oil companies.

Well that makes sense and explains a lot.

Helen Mirrens’ quote struck me as the usual movie star thinking. Men with several exceptions are almost always nicer to women when they interview and write about them. You have to look at the source. Pretty or beautiful women are treated differently by men and women. Helen is a great actor and performer and I really enjoy her work. But she has always been beautiful and treated as special. Ingrid Betancourt is in a different category entirely and she is beautiful too. The difference is that she is a heroine and knows when to be discreet. There is something to be said about celebrity worship. Just not here and now.

Helen Mirren’s photo is gorgeous….makes me want to run out and buy some red lipstick. Obama’s grandmother…sweet. And Ingrid Betancourt…a true heroine….so glad she is back and safe with her family. Great photo essay and quotes wOw…like the fun mix. I’ll bet Dolly does have a backache!

Of all those quotes, the two that will be remembered this time next year can be credited to Sarah Palin. Seeing Russia from her house as a testimonial to foreign policy expertise – classic!

Lisa, I saw skis on top of a passing car filled with people obviously on their way to Tahoe slopes today….so call me Jean Claude-Keely and give me a Gold Medal. lol

Lisa, You are aware, are you not, that Sarah Palin DID NOT say she could see Russia from her house. It was Tina Fey who said that.

Thanks, I was aware she did not say that verbatim but I appreciate that you wanted to be sure I did. ;) Credited to Sarah Palin ~ie~ TF would never have had the chance to parody SP had SP not originally made the reference.
