Dogs have ‘people,’ too. (Long before we came along.) You can check into your mutt’s breed-lineage and see if there are traits, behaviors or instincts in his/her ‘backstory’ that can explain Everything. This is great. Home DNA-kits for pound puppies. For about the same price as a bag of chow. http://dogs.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Dog_DNA_Test

I have five cats. Two nights ago, Zorro (who was my dad’s cat) starting meowing rather hysterically. My husband and I both bolted up in bed because the tone of his meow was quite frantic and alarming. We had no idea what was going on. I ran over to him and started inspecting him to see if he was bleeding or had gotten hurt somehow. He pulled away from me and ran down the stairs. We dashed down the stairs after him. My adrenaline was pumping like crazy because he was meowing these very loud, very long screeches almost ~ like he was being tortured. I knew there was something terribly wrong, but I just couldn’t figure out what. Downstairs, Zorro parked himself in front of the door leading to the garage, howling even louder. Finally, my husband yanked open the door to the garage. FLOODED!!! The hot water heater had sprung a leak and nearly the whole three car garage was filled with water. Another hour and it would have flooded the downstairs of the house. This cat, this smart, amazing cat, somehow knew there was a problem and alerted us to it. Unbelievable. The next day, my husband spent 13 hours putting in a new water heater. Thanks to Zorro, we didn’t have to put in new flooring as well! Every single one of my animals is a rescue. Rescue an animal today ~ the rewards are so tremendous.

Thanks for sharing all the pics. My dad was a veterinarian so I learned the love of animals at an early age. I have a dog and he is the joy of my life (along with my children, of course). I helped save Buddy from a family that was neglecting him, and he took to our family like a duck to water! I would love to hear how each of you chose your pooches, or should I say how they chose you! : )

Beautiful pet pictures! I myself have 2 Rottis and 2 American Pitbull Terriers, 2 flame point Siamese/Tabby cross cats. I volunteer for a Pitbull rescue, and it has been a wonderful feeling helping out so many mistreated, abandoned, misunderstood dogs. My pets have helped me survive the empty nest syndrome, without them I’d be calling my kids every 5 minutes checking on them lol.

I obtained a mutt 6 years ago. She looks mostly like a border collie with a little of something else like springer spaniel. She’s extremely smart. In that time, she has figured out how to manipulate and control everybody in my household. She has unique expectations out of everybody here. She takes me for a 2 mile walk every night. It’s a great stress buster. She’s the best investment I made. I think she initially came here from the pound expecting this to be another foster home. She is now well established here and now romps on her own personal livingroom chair and has at least 4 beds as well.
