Incredibly beautiful pics. Judith’s rememberance of her daughters statemetns about pearls… way funny! Mary’s velvet dress… to die for absolutely! As well… these are poignant. snapshots of love and loss all at the same time. loss of love loss of an era loss of tradition… interesting.

Liz—Now I understand why I never saw any wedding pictures of my parents. They were married during the war and I was told that it was considered too expensive, frivolous and just not patriotic to spend money on photos and fancy dresses. I was always suspicious of that reasoning. But your explanation just made sense to me. Why do I believe you and not my siblings? I just do.

And you look beautiful. But you always have.

My daughter has the one remaining portrait of her grandmother in her wedding dress—it was quite beautiful. Daughter and grandmother were very close—we rarely had to buy V. clothes when she was young as mom bought a ton of stuff for her :-) Watching them together was a joy. My mother always said she wanted a girl—well she got one in Anne and my daughter.

Beautiful brides, all, and Judith, you are absolutely stunning! Your mother with the pearls, and my mother with the flowers–––always an uneven number when just a few in a vase. And Marlo: I remember that guest shot of yours on Phil’s show––sparks flew all over, the two of you couldn’t stop smiling. Thank you all for these lovely photos.

Love these!! All really reflect your individual personalities. Judith, my grandmother/mother’s rule was 3-strands and tuck the pearls in! (Like Jackie) Liz, my mother and sister also wore suits and had home weddings and I thought nice, cozy, pragmatic. I did both one sleeked down, and one more glamorous like Julia and Joni. But, hold the phone. Green velvet and La Tour d’Argent. That’s for me! Maybe there must be a #3. Marlo—so sweet. (sigh) Phil Donahue xoxo!! BTW any readers interested in how to buy a wedding dress….here it is. Maybe Mimi could help you too (ha) http://ezinearticles.com/?How-To-Buy-A-Wedding-Dress&id=792700

I remember when Marlo married Phil… I thought at the time, well, since she didn’t marry “Donald” he’s the next best thing!

Except for the hair, based on the photos in here, Judith Martin looks much the same now as in her wedding photo.

Wonderful pictures and memories. Think about this: I see all these young women now spending thousands on their wedding dresses and then carefully packing them away so their daughters can wear them. Can you imagine all the daughters in 20 or so years trying to break it to mom that the dress is out of style/not their taste/no way in hell something they are going to wear?

That shouldn’t be a problem in this area. Almost every wedding dress in the Sunday Wedding pictures looks like a white towel wrapped around the ladies chests-looks like theyre all wearing the same dress. No style or fashion or anything unique there. Just plain boring. I enjoyed the individuality of the wedding dresses and suits of the WOW group. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pictures, all. Some bittersweet, young love, innocence, not to live happily ever after is sad. Something the majority of us can identify with.

Marvelous wedding photographs. Everyone looks wonderful. I don’t know why it is but I always enjoy seeing those photographs of World War II couples. The V-J Day pic of that sailor and gal in Times Square; those wonderful movies from the 1940s. Sentimental. Thanks, Liz.
