wowOwow's Best Dressed List: 10-17 September 08 (photos)
Wall Street or any street, when the going gets tough, the tough get stylish.
It is the Mrs. Miniver Effect. As played by Greer Garson in the spirit-lifting 1942 film, Britisher Kay Miniver’s rise-above-spirit, from what she did to what she wore, was just the sort of cheerful, persevering energy that meant as much if not more to Winston Churchill as a fleet of destroyers in WW II.
Out and about during these days of crisis, here Bette Midler displays her great assets, her legs, Anne Slater absolutely sees life through tinted Lugene glasses, the elegantly eccentric Iris Apfel and Vivienne Westwood wave the flag for originality, and the ageless Lauren Hutton prove that whatever age style begins, it certainly can continue past 60.
Dressing well is not just a pleasure, but boosts morale. Kind of like a neighborhood improvement project….

The best thing I can say is everyone should own a 3 dimentional mirror. Perhaps I’m watching too much "What NOT to Wear".
It isn’t so much that the colors didn’t look well on those who wore them, but the clash of mixing modern contemporary with formal and bohemian.
A true friend would have been more honest with them before they walked out the door. Not just in this list, but in some of the others as well.
I’d suggest a gift of the book ‘InStyle Secrests of Style’, and then perhaps a get together of friends for a wardrobe swapping party.
Rule of thumb, you wear something hang it one way, when you wash it, put the hanger on in the opposite direction when you put it back in the closet. IF the clothing still in there stay in the OTHER direction, it is time to start weeding your wardrobe and find something new to add to what you already own.
Most importantly, get "Tim Gunn’s 10 Essential Elements: Must-Have Basic Wardrobe Pieces for Any Woman".
THEN last but not least. Take a honest look at yourself. Have a picture of your silloutte made and then photoshop it into black so you see the TRUE you. Then shop to highlight your assets, and down play your flaws. We’re all human, we’re not perfect.
I really really think instead of stating something that could hurt someone’s feelings, we need to work together as women warriors to help one another with positive tips and suggestions that can make us ALL improve our own self worth rather than say something you can’t take back later.
So when reading this PLEASE don’t take offense, but DO use it for food for thought. We are our own worse enemy. But each of us could be our own best friend we give ourselves. :smiles:
