wowOwow's Best Dressed List: Fashion Week Sept 08

Photo Essay

For card-carrying members of the fashion establishment—Vogue editor Anna Wintour, designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Vanity Fair scribe Amy Fine Collns, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo and Project Runway’s Nina Garcia—a week of shows meant a week of significant looks. Fashion is both their pleasure and their job so what to wear? As we reported recently, the dress is the new power suit, and this week’s Best-Dressed certainly stayed on message.

I used to love to wear dresses to board meetings. Sometimes I got some weird looks from the big power boys, but I didn’t care. I too considered dresses my power suits. And how lovely those dresses looked with my mother’s antique brooches and necklaces. And the chunky look necklaces really set them off. I was content! Before long other women officers of the company also began wearing the much more comfortable dresses.

With everything that is going on in the world today I think this is a pretty silly topic. Who cares? I certainly do not.

Does Anna Wintour ever change? I mean she looks the same as she did years ago. It’s almost as though she has donned a permanent mask and wig that remains the same decade after decade. Or maybe, somewhere in her closet there is a painting of her that is getting older and older–––shades of Dorian Gray–––one wonders.

It’s my personal opinion that this topic is just as important as any other….in fact I welcome the topics which don’t talk about politics. I also say, why even comment on a topic if you don’t like it???? Beats me why people do that!

Project Runway is the only reason why I even hear about the Fashion Week. I love to see how these artists can cut a pattern and bring it to life within 2 days. It is a gift. Von Furstenberg was on the show and looked very “soignee” , gorgeous and hides her age quite well. Now, my big question is what to wear to the grocery store.?
