Inside Peek at X-RAY: The Book of Objects X-Rayed (Photos)

Photo Essay

This is the most interesting peek at lingerie you’ll ever get …

wowOwow has 24 images of x-rayed fashion objects (including bras, belts, boxers and blouses) from Viking Studio’s new coffee-table book X-Ray: See Through the World Around You. X-Ray is a collection of 300 x-rays taken by renowned artist Nick Veasey. The images in the book range from everyday items (like a flower and laptop) to extraordinary objects (like a Boeing 777 and an electric chair).

Flip through this photo essay to see Veasey’s intriguing photos and read the artist’s personal reflections.

Tell us: What item did you find the most shocking? Why?

Generally, the appeal escapes me. But I was struck by the boxing gloves. They looked like a pair of children’s mittens.

Something about these photos is relaxing to the eye.

I absolutely love X-Rays! I should have been a radiologist. I prefer the ones with the black background out of this display. I actually had a friend who worked for a vet and gave me the old X-Rays from various animals. I save them year after year in hopes to one day find a bunch of light boxes on sale so that I can do an art installation piece. I also have some of my own images of my body and teeth. So, I know what your saying Ms. Dee but I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I am underwhelmed.

These images might qualify for an “Oddity” or “Novelty” exhibition in some small gallery somewhere. IMO, they certainly do not warrant being published in a book. No wonder publishers need to be in aquisition freeze.

“renowned artist Nick Veasey” Says who? He is pulling your leg folks.
The Art History Classification would be “La merde d’artiste”.
That term has been around for a long, long time.

I know art when I see it. This isn’t art.
This is novelty commerce and an insult to art lovers everywhere.

P.S.
To expand…these are the raw materials of art; like the tubes of paint of a painter.
If these images were were assembled in some way that made a statement, moved us emotionally or spiritually, they have the potential to become art.
As presented, they show only a collection of raw materials.
The real artist is the individual who designed & created the objects that he has x-rayed & photographed.
Taking an x-ray does not make them art. It makes them only an x-ray catalogue of “stuff”.
These images tell me only that he has an x-ray machine to play with.

Art is for the soul.
Art becomes a part of our lives.
Art has a reason to exist.
Art is not made because the world needs more “stuff”.
