Michelle Obama may be the next American sweetheart.

A staggering 61 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the First Lady. Forty-one percent of those people view her "very favorably," according to a poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports. Of course, not everyone is backing Mrs. Obama: 30 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the First Lady.

Not surprisingly, more women than men give the First Lady high marks, but overall, the nation seems to approve of how she’s handled herself: She’s gained five percent points since her husband won last November’s election.

Read the results of the entire poll here.

She has a lot to bring to the job. If you need to diminish that fact, it says more about you than it does about her. What does Hillary Clinton have to do with it? I was a huge supporter of both Clintons and do not think it has anything to do with Michelle Obama and what she brings to the ‘job’ of First Lady. Eleanor Roosevelt came from aristocracy, but was a great FL too… but THAT has nothing to do with Michelle Obama either.

"She is a highly educated woman who comes from a working class, black community on the Southside of Chicago and a family that is descended from slaves. She was smart enough and a determined enough achiever to end up with degrees from Princeton and Harvard, without the leg up from family wealth and connections. We’ve never had a First Lady like her." By DeBúrca obj on 03/15/2009 11:08 pm I believe we have had one like her.   I’m not diminishing her.   I’m pointing out that "other" First Ladies brought alot to the White House as well.   I believe in being fair to the position.

The mere thought of her makes me want to vomit.

What is your reason for that exactly???

Steve Douglass
The sour look on her face. Her sense of entitlement. Her negative attitude about our society, as witnessed in her thesis in college. Her ability to stand in public and say that she is ‘finally proud of my country’. Those things, and she freakin’ ugly as sin.

Obama arranged for Chicago university hospital to get 1 million grant of our taxpayer money  and they gave him back roughly a third $357,000 in the form of a board salary for his wife Michelle for working 20 hours a week, even though Michelle was totally worthless as a board member since she had zero medical education and her law licence is on a mandatory inactive status (I wonder why).

Libra Lady, I read data to support your statement.    Do you know if they filled that position after she left or was that position especially created for her?

My last understanding, the position has not been filled….and I doubt they will….interesting..right???

Well, it would indicate that the position was perhaps a "favor" to Senator Obama.   The kickback is interesting.

caj…..  earlier today I posted a nice message to Mr. Steve which pointed out exactly why he would say such a thing but I see it has since vanished…..imagine that!  Suffice it to say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and different people have different priorities?

Our First Lady is a lovely gracious intelligent person, it is not difficult to imagine that some might feel threatened by her accomplishments.  I feel so proud that she represents all Americans with such grace and compassion.  I am especially grateful for her work with the families of our military.  I am looking forward to her future contributions….she is one AWESOME FIRST-CLASS LADY

You are so right, everybody has their right to their own opinion but to be out and out rude and hateful is so sad to say the least.  For many as we know the fact that Michelle is even in the White House is not acceptable and really it boils down to sour grapes they can’t get over losing that is the bottom line for them.  She is a very graceful, intelligent lady who knows how to handle herself with people she meets and is always warmly received wherever she goes, she is proving to be a very active First Lady and doing a good job for having that role for such a short time.   Many folks are very ignorant, it’s not just an opinion they are stating they make it very personal toward the Obama’s in general and it shows in the comments that are made.  But they are the ones with the problem and you really have to feel sorry for them to have such a hateful nature.  We see them both as great role models for future children.  It’s nice to have a happy and scandal free free family what more can you ask for?

I think you are being very disrespectful quite honestly!  She has no sense of entitlement she is a very smart accomplished woman in her own right, she didn’t need to become First Lady to do that.  The being proud of her country line has been used over and over and it is getting worn out, that was taken out of context as you know.  It’s just easier to keep using that old line to make her out to be something she is not and she is a proud American then and now.  You talk about ugly,  I think you will find that ugly starts from the inside and that seems to be where you are coming from with that statement.

The first lady has to be a good example for our country. So far, I haven’t seen any accomplishments but with time, I’m sure we’ll see many. All first ladies have set good examples….that’s part of their job. The question was whether our opinions were favorable or not favorable of her….nothing wrong with being honest. Either you like her or dislike her and you have the freedom to express those feelings.

Diamond in the Rough, there is no doubt in my mind that Michelle Obama will prove to be a good First Lady.       Like most women, she loves her husband and her family.   Both she and her husband have their "vision" on where they want to take the United States of America.   That vision, like other presidents and first ladies before them is based solely on how they were raised and the company they kept over the course of their lives.   They sat in Rev. Wright’s church, they associated with left radicals and they both took advantage of opportunities handed to them.  Those centers of influence helped to shape their professional and private lives.   Like others before them, they will bring those life experiences with them into the White House.

That being said, I look forward to her accomplishments as First Lady.   There’s no reason why she shouldn’t do an admirable job for military families and anything else she feels passionate about.
