Court: Al Franken Wins Minnesota Senate Race

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

To those of us outside Minnesota, the aftermath of the Senate election there is beginning to seem a little like a "Saturday Night Live" skit. No sooner does a court declare former "SNL" player and Democrat Al Franken the winner than Republican opponent Norm Coleman vows to fight on. It’s like a carousel of political drama. And it shows no sign of slowing.

A three-judge panel ruled yesterday that Al Franken’s lead of 312 votes should stand and unanimously rejected Norm Coleman’s legal argument that the vote count had not been conducted unfairly. The judges insisted that Franken "received the highest number of votes legally cast and is therefore entitled to receive the certificate of the election."

The judges were very clear that they thought Coleman’s argument — that many rejected votes should have been counted — had no merit. They stated that Coleman’s position "would lead to an absurd result."

That doesn’t mean Coleman won’t appeal. He will. And a decision from the Minnesota Supreme Court will come no sooner than May.
If they don’t rule in his favor, Coleman can appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but at that point he’ll have to decide if that’s his best course of action politically.

Sounds as if you are a candidate to call him and say enough:) If the citizens of that state did that , he would have to give it up or  maybe he just likes  looking like an idiot.

Paula, Coleman doesn’t give a rats behind about Minn. and as long as the republicans keep his coffers from going dry he will continue this fight. He is just holding up the democrats from getting another vote closer to a filibuster proof majority.

You’re correct Mel, I live in MN too and frankly most of the people I know want him gone and Bachmann with him.

What a pair they are and Bachmann should definitely be thrown out as she is nothing more than an inciter of hatred with all the trash she talks!!

Mel….so you would rather have a filibuster than checks and balances?  Everyone knows this is not good for politics…..

LL, I am just stating the fact, the republicans keep donating money so Coleman can keep going. They want to block the democrat from being seated for as long as they can.

Mel…yes you are probably right about stalling the seating of the dem, frankin….but what concerns me more, is the filibuster….I can’t imagine that’s what the people would like to see in this government….checks and balances are so important….especially now….curious how you feel on this…you are usually quite fair here at Wow, and your posts have been very good, and cause me to stop and think when reading them, so I do respect your opinion….

LL, I do like checks and balances but it is clear from the decision that Franken won. I must say that I am a fan of Al Franken,as I have listened to him many times on the radio and find he is quite intelligent. That being said I suppose I do tilt to his side and if I didn’t dislike Coleman….. I don’t know what I’d think then! You are right about checks and balances though, always the best way, after all it did work for Pres. Clinton rather well.

Amen f p.  It mystifies me that Bachmann got re-elected and doesn’t show the people in her district in a very positive way since she seems to be a certifiable wacko.  Unlike Coleman however, she was (unfortunately) re-elected.

Her precinct is a haven for cult republicans. Even other republicans wanted someone else. She does seem to embody everything that is wrong with the republican party.

Gosh, how much is this costing Coleman? I mean in money, not reputation. I wouldn’t want someone with that frame of mind spend my tax money frivolously (fruitlessly? can’t figure out which word is better) if I lived in that state.
